32 months, 70 releases, 100 artists. Intricate Records has a lot to be proud of and, at the same time, has a lot of new challenges ahead. As of nowadays the label is definitely the leading sounding board of progressive and melodic house on the territory of Russia and former Soviet Union. But not the ranks and chart positions or fame of individual artists build the success of Intricate Records – it’s the painstaking work, solidarity and talent of the label team that enhance reputation and reliable partner status. The label has become an unfailing spring of high-quality music.

Over a year ago the label released its debut signature compilation, «Intricate Sessions». It quickly became a must-have for both music fans and disc jockeys who filled their players and record boxes with numerous tracks from those two CDs. Today the label is glad to announce the long-awaited sequel. In order to keep up with the good tradition, the responsible people for the 2014 edition are once again the label co-founders, PROFF and Vadim Soloviev.

The key principle remained the same – both producers built up their mixes literary brick by brick selecting only yet unreleased works. The compilation reflects the current tastes and the vision of modern electronic dance music as part of Intricate Records’ entire musical philosophy. No surprise that once again there are two mixes that review the full spectrum of the label’s sound, including numerous productions by its co-founders, residents and regularly-featured industry heavyweights like Lost & Found leader Guy J from Israel, leading resident at Colorize and one of Poland’s dance music scene flagships Sebastian Weikum or impressively experienced Boom Jinx from Norway.

Vadim Soloviev is known for his magic mixing skills, his 2014 selection outspreads from classical progressive with a blend of deep house, electro house and other on-demand styles of today. The track «Beyond» by Pete K is likely inspired by the works of Eric Prydz while «Buggy Funk» by Cramp dumbfounds the listeners with unexpected broken beats. Next comes the hit-single «Shout!» by Sebastian Weikum and «Be Real» that was recorded by Vadim Soloviev together with the British vocalist Drew Darcy, followed by optimistic mainstream «Centimental Crying» by Deep Lark and Chelyabinsk-based singer Irina Makosh. As a dessert come two vocal productions touching to the roots of our being: «Loving Man» by the Dutch favourites Envotion and «Point Of View» by a representative of the Ukraine, V I F.

PROFF is more close-knit in his mix. The first half is built of potential hits like «Robots» by Envotion or enveiling and laid-back remix of Amor Entrave’s «Something Else» by Evgeny Svalov (4Mal) and lyrical, full of piano modulations «Symphony» by the tandem LTN & Ad Brown. Closer to the second part PROFF intentionally gears up and hardens the beat. Prominent producers come into the game – you will notice these are the ones who like to perform in different genres and prefer to create very dancefloor-friendly works. Take a note of D-Mad who combined trance and progressive in his newest track named after the great Russian poet Pushkin. It is hard to walk past the techno-influenced «Audio Pressure» by Cosmonaut, assertive and nerves-rattling with its rapping-tapping «Blue & White» by PROFF himself or also Vladimir’s «You Wanna» with those provoking samples from cartoons.

Also a homage to one of the most influential prog house producers around. A master of chord structure and melodies that most of my earlier work came from. "Beautiful" has another gorgeous chord progression I was hooked on. Unfortunately I think the vocal edit of that track ruined it, but the chord progression still remained golden! For sure my top 1 with "After the Sunrise" and "The Paradise" close behind.

Slovakian producers Mark & Lukas have a clear knack for sound design, and this is shown in great detail with their 'Colours Of Life EP'.

'Colours Of Life' features sensitive melodic ostinatos that work together effortlessly to create a lush, intricate soundscape that is full of optimism and vitality. The guys' fresh angle on the relaxed progressive sound is exciting to hear when it comes in the form of tracks as special as this one. Over on side B is 'The Echo Of The Mountains' which takes a colder approach with glassy atmospheric FX and cool chord swells, as well as live guitars, skilled piano performances, and a strong, pulsing offbeat bassline for good measure.

Demonstrating plenty of musical flair and talent for creating quality productions, Mark & Lukas have exceeded expectations massively with their 'Colours Of Life EP'.

Swedish trance & progressive maestro Johan Vilborg continues to contribute enormously to our imprint as a co-host of our weekly radio show, Silk Music Showcase, as well as lending production credits to some of our most significant annual releases, most recently "The Midnight Remixed" and "Silk Music Showcase 06." With respect to the latter, a mixed form of Johan's euphoric "Seasons" closed out Tom Fall's continuous mix. It's our privilege to finally share an extended, DJ-friendly version of "Seasons," paired with the brand new feel-good anthem "Swetro."

Fans of Johan Vilborg's beloved signature sound will have cause to celebrate, as the melodic layers of "Seasons" are nothing short of rapturous. We are treated to their radiance and roaring intensity quite early in the arrangement, and, of course, again in the climactic drop. In between, an elegant and almost meditative main breakdown reflects the growth and maturity of the Swedish veteran's musicianship.

Another vintage Vilborg cut, "Swetro" (a cheeky abbreviation of "Swedish retro"), shares similarities with his celebrated remix of Dinka's "Lotus," perhaps his most recognizable work. In the early going, we are introduced to a gorgeous symphonic theme, which is soon followed by Johan Vilborg's quintessential layered chords, as lush and uplifting as ever before. A crescendoing rhythmic and melodic arrangement completely drops out halfway through the song, leaving the listener with only the mellifluous sounds of a string and piano interlude; suddenly, the momentous chords re-emerge and lead the listener to a thrilling hands-in-the-air moment.

I wrote these 2 pieces when I was quite sick for a couple weeks and simply had no interest sitting in front of a computer. Instead these were written on piano, cello and guitar. All played live. «Intricate Records is something tangible and emerging from our long-term friendship and creative relations. – It is hard to imagine that someone will make an objection regarding many associable details and ideas of our creative work. The most significant part is that our preferences and tastes intricately but harmoniously amplify each other in most cases. All of us feel it. That is why the creation of a record label is a logical step for our career».

A friendship is one thing, but continuous development is vitally important. This is why the fellows decided not to take a break at the level of current achievements and grounded their own record label. «By the times someone discovers the points of coincidence with the colleagues not only in terms of business, but also creative sphere – that is always a positive experience! – Unification of musical efforts in frames of one label is our next and by no means unimportant step in creative self-fulfillment».

It is important to mention that the quad is not going to limit the newborn imprint’s catalog only with own productions. Intricate Records is also a promising platform for implementation of creative aspiration of other talented producers who feel themselves on the same wave quite often.

«Right at the moment there is no single record label which coincides with my musical taste and general conception, which I would like to see being embodied. Starting a new imprint with the fellow guys, I’m looking forward to the having the possibility of fulfilling myself as an A&R-manager and making the current musical world at least a little bit better. We are going to collaborate with our friends and associates from around the world. I certainly believe, if such projects are held with well-intentioned mood and built on relations of friendship, there are certain chances to make something special and terminative».
