Today we are proudly welcoming Timnah Sommerfeldt from Basel with her signature approach to earthy dance music. We have been following her work since long before the Warning times so it's an honor to have her on the mix series with a 68min trip through Breakbeats, Dub Techno and Trance. Selected and mixed with the type of skill one only achieves by years of dedication and experience. So young DJs out there, sit down, listen and learn how it's done. But in first place, enjoy this wonderful example of emotional story telling.

https://soundcloud.com/placa_fer is a tool to experiment and to connect. Its main intention is to generate a sonic diary, gradually adding layers of information, memories and emotions. 
With an attraction towards storytelling, imperfection and out of control  scenarios, placa's compositions aim to take the listener to concrete places and ephemeral situations with field recordings as its cornerstone. Archiving moments, as if clips were filmed and stored for future reference. 

 "kyo-ka" for Mnemosyne is the sound map of a trip to Japan in late 2019. 

"What was a crucial sound experience in your life?"
When I first listened to my first field recordings with studio headphones I was shocked by the power they had to take me to specific moments and places in life instantly. Even if some years have passed by, they still hold that super power. It is also fascinating how, every time I listen to them, I hear new details and new strong connections are built. The micro macro perception when listening to field recordings has really influenced the way I listen to my everyday context.

MNEMOSYNE #042 - PLACA

For episode 54, I’m joined by Dutch-Italian producer and sound designer Aimee Portioli, also known as @grandriver.

After her celebrated first full length, Pineapple, which debuted on the iconic Spazio Disponible back in 2018, Grand River established herself within a world of cinematic sound, best loved for her narrative style which sees her experiment not only in electronic music, but also in acoustic instrumentation, sound installation, and beyond. Her latest record, All Above, effortlessly mutates from droney bass pieces to vaporous atmospheres — it was a particular pleasure to hear this album live at Berlin’s Silent Green, in all its engulfing, enrapturing glory. 

This kind of deep experience is one of Grand River’s specialities, as a performer of course, but also as a producer and composer, and in this conversation, we explore all the ways in which her music immerses the listener in her unique world.
