Introducing the second release in Chapter’s (http://joinchapter.com) new music series, COMPOSITION_DISORDER with artist, The KVB.  Based upon the blending of disciplines of similar mind and direction coming together as an inspiration of sorts, COMPOSITION_DISORDER, features the artist’s own uniquely conjured interpretations of dark, distorted but emotionally powerful ambient sound. By creating irregularity in compositional spaces the perspective of scale and the listener’s place is shifted.

The second of the music series, Poetics of Space, is provided by The KVB (http://facebook.com/thekvb1). The KVB is an audio/visual project of U.K. duo Nicholas Wood and Kat Day.  This U.K. duo (whom currently reside in Berlin) blend reverb-soaked shoegaze with minimalist electronic production to create their delicate and ephemeral sound.  Formed in 2010 by Nicholas Wood and Kat Day, The KVB got started with a number of limited cassette and vinyl releases before their first full-length, Always Then, arrived in 2012. Two more albums, Immaterial Visions and Minus One, arrived the following year, Minus One being a proper release of material that had surfaced before in the form of digital downloads and extremely limited cassettes.

Poetics of Space was influenced by the strong, minimalist aesthetic of Chapter. The work is an immersion into this concrete landscape via machine-like processing of the drums. “We tried to capture the phenomenological experience of the architecture with the textured synths and guitar to create a solitary narrative throughout this imagined space,” describes The KVB. “We’ve also recently moved to Berlin, so that may also play a part.”

Maserati are a band obsessed with process. Specifically, they're obsessed with the process of marrying the past to the future — retro futurists hellbent on forging Krautrock and classic rock into one motorik, monolithic vehicle. Rehumanizer is the most accomplished product of that process to date, a marriage of man and machine that plays like a supergroup comprised of Gary Numan, Cluster, and Pink Floyd.

Recorded and mixed by drummer Mike Albanese – and produced entirely by the band in their own studio – this is the first Maserati album completely devoid of outside collaboration or interference. Building songs up bit by bit — and breaking them back down to their barest elements — Maserati fully embraced technology as a songwriting tool. The band takes greater risks than ever, sonically experimenting on the fly and incorporating unprocessed vocals for the first time ever.

For the past decade Maserati has built a career out of relentless forward momentum – a tight, sleek, chugging beast that drove towards the sun and rarely veered off course. Rehumanizer maintains that same ambition and sense of abandon, but is distinctly as much man as it is machine – a true alliance of the past and the future.

MY DISCO have always employed space as an instrument. Space between notes; space between instruments; even space between albums, as the Australian trio prepare to release Severe, their first full-length record in nearly five years. More than just a title, Severe pushes MY DISCO’s subtle, intensely focused, minimalist sound to its most terrifying extreme. It is bleak, occasionally uncomfortable, and unpredictably profound.

Recorded, mixed, and produced in Melbourne by acclaimed film composer and producer, Cornel Wilczek. Engineered entirely in a digital domain, the recording process for Severe was a huge change for MY DISCO, who had previously worked with renowned analog tape guru, Steve Albini. The change in process allowed the band the freedom to explore enhanced audio effects, including programmed sine wave drones and heavily effected rhythms and vocals.

Severe is an album of aggravated tonal darkness and long breaths of disturbing silence, punctuated by pounding stabs and heavy, hypnotic rhythms. It is a minimalist approach to maximum sound, and by far the band’s darkest, heaviest, and most consistent album of MY DISCO’s burgeoning career.

You're Doomed. Be Nice. is Rob Crow's first album since his heavily-publicized withdrawal from music – specifically the toxic byproducts of the lifestyle of a touring professional musician attempting to survive in an industry of diminishing returns. Rather than perform, record, and mix every note himself – a trademark of his previous solo endeavors – Crow formed Gloomy Place, a band made up of close friends that includes another member of the beloved Heavy Vegetable. Recorded and mixed by Ben Moore (Hot Snakes), You're Doomed presents a fascinating dichotomy: dynamic, eclectic prog-pop backing alarmingly confessional, often acerbic lyrical themes. This juxtaposition makes for an album of confrontational yet accessible songs filled with wry wit and emotional depth.

Whereas Crow's previous solo endeavors acted primarily as low-key stop-gaps between Pinback albums, the stakes are markedly higher here – and it shows in both the depth of songwriting and impressively labyrinthine performances. Gone are the 60-second blink-and-you-missed-them acoustic sketches that became a staple of Crow's solo albums; You're Doomed is filled with the kind of thoughtful attention to detail and craft that was a hallmark of Pinback's legendary catalog.

You're Doomed. Be Nice. is the diamond carved out of a particularly rough chunk of Rob Crow's life – one that's either the first gem of an inspired second act, or the culmination of an undeniably influential career. In either case, the quality of its cut will last a lifetime.

Coming straight off the back of their well received debut album, a talent for being unreasonable, Glasgow's wojtek the bear have wasted no time in getting back into the studio to furnish us with fresh music for 2019. Recording in the legendary Chem 19 with producer Jamie Savage [The Twilight Sad, Miaoux Miaoux, The Phantom Band, RM Hubbert], the band, with chiming melodies, pulsing bassline and swirling guitars, aim for that musical sweet spot between Camera Obscura's Lloyd I'm Ready To Be Heartbroken and Real Estate's It's Real.

Of the track, lead singer Tam Killean reveals; “When I first moved into Glasgow in my early 20's I quickly encountered people at parties I'd never been exposed to before; kids who'd never worked a day in their life, spent their summers in Val-d'Isére or Biarritz and all seemed to have fucking ponies. This song is about how initially on coming into contact with them I had a bit of a crisis of confidence, thinking that I'd wasted my life by just getting absolutely smashed from the age of 15 onwards.”

Current Affairs are a post punk band from Glasgow, neatly navigating the line between new wave and goth. Formed in 2016 and Comprising Joan (ex-The Royal We/Seconds/Rose McDowall's band), Seb (ex-Anxiety/Pissy), Josh (The Downs/Kaspar Hauser/ex-Rose McDowall's band) and Andrew (Shopping/As Ondas).

A cassette called Object was released along the way on Comodillo Tapes and in December 2018 the band’s first 7” Breeding Feeling -bw- Draw The Line was put out into the world by Not Unloved, followed in June 2019 by Buckle Up -bw- World’s In Crisis, out via Berlin’s Dot Dot Dot (...).

Object & Subject is the accumulation of the band’s output over 3 years (excluding the Dot Dot Dot release), now gathered and synthesised into one convenient disc. “We never agonised over our sound or direction, but worked to our punk strengths and leaned into our pop tendencies collectively. On the cusp of releasing an album and re-imagining our live set up, it feels great to be putting out this overview of what we’ve made so far. “
