For our first installment we are beyond excited to present to you a very special contribution, by our dear friend Polygonia. A tense buildup and strong atmosphere made to lure you into a percussive vortex that will spit you out into the depths of a dark and humid rainforest. Surrender yourself to a ritual sacrifice guided by Polygonia’s rythmical precision and sensibility.

Polygonia is a multitalented artist based in Munich, where she runs the formidable record label IO together with her crew. Her sound is driven by a mystic, deep and organic character enriched by her studies in various acoustic instruments. She has repeatedly demonstrated to be a force to be reckoned with through her impeccable body of work released on some of the finest labels around. Orbita 01 - Polygonia

There's a storm outside, the night has long taken over, and all you have left with is nothing short of a performance.
Snowflakes gracefully pivot into the light to be picked up and shot back into the sky. The dance continues, hypnotizing as a road full of tiny pleasant obstacles - intricate and detailed soundscapes throughout the 3-hour-long voyage deep into Mind Archives musical selection.
When kept interested, you see, hear, and feel new wonders - when you invest in the experience - this defines a trip, a journey, and a truly remarkable story.

@mindarchives is Diego, an explorer of deep and psychedelic techno rich in minimalist atmospheres, also known for bringing people and music together at his Aroma Cósmico events from Galicia to Portugal.
He is currently one of the resident DJs at Gare Porto and the curator of the recently created Label @frequencia-introspectiva.

Black Wave 055: Mind Archives

The sixth episode of our Herbarium series was recorded by the very talented Ina Kacz. It is composed of organic textures, intriguing grooves and tense harmonies - a great delight for mind and body. With this mix Ina features her connection to the plant 'Mimosa Pudica', also known as the sensitive or shy plant. She is fascintated by its elegant and fast movement when it protects itself in the way of closing down while being touched or during night time. Another specialty of this wonderful species is that it can even learn with time what kind of touches do no harm and which ones do. Ina can relate to this versatility and consciousness in her personality as an artist. Especially in this mix it is easy to recognize how precise and versatile she curated her selection and its interpretation. The atmosphere of the gentle and textural beginning evolves into energetic faster dancefloor oriented grooves, to come back to a very soothing soundscape. Truly like the opening and closing of the leaves, fitting to each moment.

Our next guest is an Amsterdam based artist who is passionate about two things; making refined ceramic products and composing deep rhythms within the spectrum of techno as a genre. He is label head of @profundocollective and has release, forthcoming on Circular. We are huge fans of his work and really excited and honored to present this submission to the channel, please welcome Noah Lyas.

He’s just as focussed on musical dynamics; with expansive chords but intimate effects, and how sounds move about in the club as well as in your head. He makes soundscapes rather than tracks, where euphoric moods and thunderous basslines can coexist, and where minute little details capture your mind’s eye while punchy drum work makes an immediate physical impact. He explores the rough and the smooth, the loud and the quiet, the cerebral and the visceral in aquatic and naturalistic worlds where electro, techno, dub and ambient are blurred into one. 

This means that as both a producer and comprehensive live act, the Dutchman can take you from the furthest reaches of outer space to the depths of an oceanic abyss via crackling and frozen tundras. He does so under three aliases—VC-118A, Mohlao, Multicast Dynamics, but all are interconnected and related, with a modular approach to making and performing music meaning that a pumping breakbeat live-set can easily be transformed into an abstract sonic landscape by reducing and modifying elements, playing with textures and reworking structures. 

“I’m always searching for a duality, something that marries dance floor functionality with an end of the world melodrama that gets deep inside your head,” says the artist. “My process is intuitive and unplanned, so I can start with sound design and atmospherics first, or get lost in rhythms.” This understanding of narrative, as well as groove, means that whatever alias he assumes, he can pump out a peak time festival set, twist you inside out with an intimate session in a cosy club or play an experimental soundscape set in more thought provoking settings with his own avant garde visuals. Dancers at cult places like Tresor, Denovali Festival and a Boiler Room showcase in Nijmegen have all experienced this in the recent past. 

Known by electronic music obsessives as one of electro’s shining lights, the last decade has seen van Dijk excel in both EP and LP format. His achingly beautiful melancholic moods and roomy, absorbing grooves are so fully realised that they work well beyond the club context and have come on top labels like Delsin, Frustrated Funk and Silent Season amongst others. They include highlights like the tension between raw machine sounds and ethereal pads that were explored on VC-118A’s underground classic Vaxna; Shift Register, which was made from largely one-take hardware jams with an instinctive and lo-fi finish, and the slow burning techno of Mohlao’s Landforms LP. Of course, his Multicast Dynamics album quadrilogy on Denovali also laid out immersive ambient worlds in truly escapist ways. 

The future will bring more multi-layered interplay between these varied but related projects on both solo and collaborative releases. This exploration of opposing forces will continue in the live arena, too, where van Dijk can arrest your attention with thrilling sets of guttural and gritty techno, take you into the future with his electro or zone you out with cathartic ambient. Whatever he does, dance floor experiences are rarely as immersive and emotional as those crafted by this multifaceted artist.

One last mix to end the year. When Svreca sent me this set, he could not have known what it would mean to me. I have spent so much time looking back lately, reliving old discussions and re-imagining moments passed, often lamenting how much was lost along the way. In just under three hours this mix communicates the flow of years. An archived recording from a special memory, it reminds me that the passage of time is beautiful even in what it fades away. Listening to it, I become lost completely, as though I am everywhere at once.
