R+L Spring 2021

Schrödinger’s Box found a true audio delinquent when they discovered Rapha. Resident at Alphabet Club in Tel Aviv, this is a musician who creates tracks with a punk attitude and a painted acid smile. The co-founder of Chateau Royal arrives with four blistering numbers for our box. After the pounding percussion and 303 smears of “Ivanka”, this sidewinder synthesist unfurls the brooding darkness that is “Transform.” Lighter tones pierce the gloom in the carefully crafted “Visionia” before The Exaltics lands for some deep and dreamy electro with an incredible remake of “Voyager101.” Rapha’s original of “Voyager101” closes the 12”. Rasping rhythm patterns cut a path for rich dauby analogue bars in this stripped-back, late-night close.

It had been several hours since the plane left the ground, bound for a far flung destination that was yet to be decided. Every passenger who embarked this plane left the location up to chance, in the hope of discovering something new, somewhere untouched and unspoilt by human hands. Nobody came home disappointed, and some didn't come home at all.

Following releases for Moustache, Bordello a Parigi and Permanent Vacation, French producer Eliott Litrowski makes his way to Utrecht-based imprint SoHaSo's offshoot OOSHA. Across the three original tracks on his 'Long Story Short' EP, he ties together his love of Dutch electro, French techno and Italo Disco, backed up by a heavy electro remix on the flip from a pioneer of the sound, DMX Krew.

After a well received 50th catalog number and the latest EP from Moo Moonster & Parissior, Berlin-based
returns with its Lost Tapes series. A 10 track album from cutting edge artists deserving your attention.
Zombies in Miami, known from their releases on Running Back & Permanent Vacation kick off this release with their debut track on AEON, which had its beginning on some improvisation during a live show. The work on it continued in studio and out came „Running Again“. A song which is guided by a heavy 303 bassline, a driving arpeggiator, a dark synth melody and pregnant cowbells.
Rigopolar is no stranger to the camp. His last release on AEON was quite a success, also being found in essential playlists such as Dixon’s Track ID on Spotify. The arrangements of his songs are quite a-typical for this Italo influenced sound and therefore makes it so special. „Into The Sun“ as well is constantly evolving with small changes, grooving and driving towards its highlights. A tune to easily get lost in it.
Upcoming Lithuanian born producer and DJ Zakmina, who’s tracks already have been released on Jennifer Cardini’s Correspondant or Future Boogie continues the journey on this album with a dreamy electro/ breakbeat influenced piece. Adding some „Kraftwerk“ sounding computer voice, „Activation“ becomes a worth debut on AEON for the 25 year old.
We are also happy to welcome Vhyce, another young gun, who already made some noise with releases on Pets Recordings and Future Disco. The characteristics of his sounds are very clear and recognizable... Still he manages that his way of ‚simple‘ also turns out ‚effective‘. „Back To Where I Never Was“ can also be seen as the introduction to a massive EP following up later this year.
Russian Zakir describes himself as a producer with „meticulous attitude to forming“ of his music, reminding „of narration of a fairy tale“. „Courier 21“ tells us a story leading us through breaks, a classic 303 bassline, topped with melodies in arabic scale.
The Mexican line up on the 4th part of this Lost Tapes completes Guadalajara based My Boy Roy, who already delivered a massive remix for Alex Niggemann’s „Rise of the Machines“ back in 2020. „Chimerical“ stands out with its classic synth/new wave drums and a dark vibe bass riff, opening up with ‚sunshine like‘ melancholic break, before dropping back into its beats.
Another intro via Lost Tapes makes Rees, owner of the eclectic ‚Paradiso’ label with his uptempo tune „Dominate The Matrix“. His upcoming EP on AEON is long awaited and will include a remix from no one less than ‚Curses’.
Italian- Venezuelan Ricardo Baez, founder „Tropical Animals“ an event series in Florence, is up next with his tune „Ricordo Micidiale“ which is Italian for a very hard and strong memory, which at the same time could be a fatal or lethal memory. "This track resumes both things“, he says. Stomping 909 toms, driving bassline and choir/vocal like atmospheres might relate to the the constant battle of thoughts within minds of artists and genius minds.
Rotterdam based Machinegewehr has already made himself a name with releases on Correspondant and Amsterdam's Bordello A Parigi. With „The Maze“ the passionate drummer delivers a dreamy Nu-Italo gem with outstanding vocoder sounds and sets the bar high for his upcoming EP on AEON.
Lost Tapes Vol. 4 ends with „Mind Slave“. A track produced by Silicodisco, that finds its inspirations though the genres of Indie Dance, Future Disco and touches of post New Wave. A laid back, melodic heavy tune that perfectly rounds up an album, the AEON family is proud to present to you.

As dusk set in she felt her stomach sink; sleep was nobody's friend in this place. With it or without it, nothing good ever happened. She sat bolt upright in bed, urging her eyes to stay open and not succumb to the vulnerability that dozing off would bring. The veil of night promised the unexpected. Rather than finding out what lurked in the shadows, avoidance was her weapon of choice. 

DJ and producer Nicola Kazimir has many strings to his musical bow. Aside from his sonic output, in his home of Zürich he's a party organiser, space owner, artist and label owner, namely the cluster of labels consisting of Les Points, Gentrified Underground and Infoline, the former of which houses his newest outing.

A conceptual release—like some of his previous work— 'Post-Heretic Dracula X Chronicles II' explores the figure of Dracula as a part fictive, part autobiographical metaphor, depicting "the complex relationships of a loving/living person in a neo-liberal capitalist system." Rhythmically raw and rife with b-movie horror samples and haunting synth work, the 11-track LP comments on conflicts between between love, life and system-critique in a playful and witty manner.

His temperament was hard to gauge, his stoic expression impossible to read. It were as though he wasn't from this world; as if he'd been beamed down from a different time or place... Or perhaps he was just lost, unsure of the path he was going down or where he'd been before. His presence was ghostly almost; like he was a memory of a bygone era; a vision of the past.

After their last VA release that rallied together the likes of Richard Gamble, Kluentah and TV.OUT, London's Sister Recordings welcome a figurehead of early German techno, EBM and industrial; Thomas P. Heckmann. Made up of two slamming cuts that cement Heckmann's status as a master of the aforementioned sonics, the originals are backed up by two remixes from Bristol-based producer October and Scottish duo Clouds.

He'd always hated heights; it was a childhood fear that he'd not managed to shake after all these years. As part of their 20th birthday celebrations, digital distribution, rights management, PR company and record label EPM have rounded up their nearest and dearest for a series of three Various Artist EPs: each one exploring a genre that's formed the backbone of EPM's work over the last two decades. Following a techno-focused four-tracker featuring Robert Hood, Mark Broom and more, the label usher in the second part which turns the spotlight on electro, with new tracks from veterans of the genre: The Advent & Zein Ferreira, Carl Finlow, Detroit’s Filthiest and Modulator a.k.a. Dez Williams' second Woodwork outing further frames his imaginative productions within a wide conceptual space encompassing several styles of deep electronic underground music. Expressive noisy synth riffs and soaked stabs lace their way through a series of jams which pull equally from modern and vintage varieties of techno, acid, house and electro. The resulting sound and feeling averts description or definition, yet there remains an absolute sense of lineage and vague familiarity in the midst of this set of explorative works.

From the quirky acid bass and melodic bleeps of the title track, 'hexentrik', through dub meditations invoked by 'screenshot', with the raw machine sound of 'formit' and enlightened pattern play central to 'nowtt', the EP winds its way toward the eastern pentatonic 'ohaguro' and the dramatic interstellar acid, electro-techno afterburner 'entangled data banks'. This collection offers up several mix-ready individual flavours that also serve an engaging chronicle heard start to finish.
