Justin Depth is the moniker of artist and co-label head of Image Research, Justin Myers. As a catch-all for his many different creations as producer and performer, his sound has touched on a near-infinite array of electronic sounds like IDM, ambient, drone, techno, broken-beat, downtempo, and many others. As 1/2 of the duo Alien House, he has also helped lay the foundation for a prolific output, most notably their most recent album ‘You’, a stunning display that exists in the cross-sections of futurist-leaning electronica.

Amidst a cloud of digital one-offs and concept-driven collected works, emerges the first physical Justin Depth offering to date, ‘Wired’. Engineered and realized through various tactile and interfacing methods, the 5 track EP is a crisp and tectonic offering, showing a keen attention to detail and a deep appreciation for beat-driven atmosphere. Against the backdrop of ambient texture and glossy surfaces, broken-down breaks and percussion patterns cut through with precision and fluidity. Familiar and unobtainable all at once. Syrinx Music is pleased to welcome Midnight Totem amongst its catalogue. Persephone is her fifth release, following an album released on Tripalium Corp last year: over the course of twelve tracks and 42 minutes, Midnight Totem showcases her sound, taking cues from 90s-style IDM, electro, dark techno, ambient, breaks & more. These various influences are connected by Midnight Totem’s unique touch, lying on her taste for deep arpeggios, murky melodies and a punk approach to music production. 

Aerial layers of synths, melodic keys & echoes of distant voices combine in successive vignettes, creating an atmosphere that simultaneously emanates melancholy and menace. Persephone also makes great use of Midnight Totem’s signature lo-fi sound, favouring immediacy in her music writing, and placing the expression of feelings and sensations at the core of her productions. Her thoughts were bubbling, they ran wild and recklessly from subject to subject taking up brainspace. She looked through glass eyes, glazed and distant by what sat behind.

Wandering between the cars, the people, the noise. She was simply lost in her own little world, delighted and happy to be at a disconnect from it all. It was magic up here.

The rain was falling heavily, puddles were forming by the corners of the road. It would only get colder and wetter from here but meanwhile she felt warm.

Talik appears on a new compilation celebrating five years of Pressure Dome. Her track is excellent, deep and weaving. The label invites friends and family to contribute as they mark a special milestone.
