To immerse yourself in Yu Su’s music is to give way to sensation, like closing your eyes to better feel the warmth of the sun. There’s a purity and lightness that emits from her melodies in which keys, woodwinds and drums melt into effortless rhythms. Organically groovy and powerfully transportive, Yu Su’s productions float between coasts, inspiring moments of reflection with their meditative quality. The Vancouver-based Chinese artist holds a unique perspective and highly personal voice, and has quickly gained recognition within the electronic music scene with releases on labels such as Arcane, Genero, PPU and Wichelrode. In addition to her solo work, Yu Su also produces under the moniker You’re Me alongside partner Scott Gailey, creating more experimental and downtempo takes on house music. As a DJ, Yu Su crafts evocative musical narratives which touch on memories and introspections, providing a small window into her world with every mix.

Recorded with the idea of representing the person she’s become over the past year, Truancy Volume 201 is a powerful reflection on Yu Su’s direct experience with loss and love. Opening with a Liszt piece which stands for her childhood, then moving on to an improvised midi-keyboard duet with her partner, through one of her very first records purchased after seriously getting into music, and ending with a track from a favorite director’s film A Brighter Summer Day, the mix, in Yu Su’s words, “wasn’t really curated by me, but for me.” It’s an honor to share this serene mix and a pleasure to have had some words with the brilliant artist.

After the release of his debut album 'Silent City' in 2016, a series of great reviews including mentions in the Independent and Clash Magazine, rising Brighton-based composer and producer Black Square (AKA Andrew Beaton) releases the first single ‘Coral Blues’ from his second album “Beggars Opera” on 21st February 2020 via Blind Colour, along with a video directed and produced by Friend London.

Featuring the achingly soulful vocals of Laville who recently released his debut album on the infamous Acid Jazz Records and has toured and collaborated with the likes of John Legend, Foreign Beggars and Ask Walker to name but a few, ‘Coral Blues’ is a slice of modern, song-based breakbeat at it’s very best, and comes with a supporting video produced by Friend London, best known for their award-winning work with the likes of Childish Gambino, Charlie XCX and Christine & The Queens to name but a few.

Supporting remixes come from legendary dubstep, garage and electronica producers Phaeleh (Undertow/Afterglo/Disfigured Dubz), and a more dancefloor-friendly re-work from Throwing Snow (Houndstooth/A Future Without).

Awesome Awesome Awesome!! Jes one Tossed me this tape back at the Groove Shop in Rockford back when it was on Broadway back in the day. Out of all the house music mixes I have heard this one here has to be in my ultimate top 5. I can never get sick of this one. One of my favorite tracks on this one.. towards the end Ron Trent Movement.. I have listed as a separate track on my site.. enjoy.. :) 4/24/20  Sad news to report. Mike has passed away, again the beat paused to reflect upon once again the passing of another great house DJ. When I first started DJ-ing I was influenced most by the music of my hometown. But second to that, I was obsessed with UK dance music and club culture. I bought every DJ magazine. I listened to every Essential Mix. So when I found out I was going to do the mix, I wanted to put a special focus at certain points on UK dance music - because after all this is for Radio 1.

It was important to me to create a peak time club set because that is what I’m missing most right now.  I wanted to give a snapshot of what you would hear if you heard me in a club today - all the different styles of dance music mixed together.

I only call out 4 “Elliott Edits” in the tracklist because those are the ones I changed the most and have played many times in clubs.  But actually every track on this mix is edited.  Like putting together a puzzle except you can change the shape of the pieces slightly to tell a smoother, more concise, story.

In the “Mix CD” days, DJ’s approached a mix with the same amount of time and effort as an album.  When I do a mix like this (or my Panorama Mix, or my Fabric CD) I hold myself to those same standards, and I hope you can hear that within.

Making her debut on Biologic, young Italian newcomer Matisa's adventure is plotted around three atmospheric, soul-affirming late-night gems that are all based around different chapters of the night and the mindset that comes with it. Loaded with an additional Kim Ann Foxman remix, this trip has something for everyone.

We start with 'I Need A Bit Of Poetry', Matisa's yearning for substance and meaning wrapped up in a bright, breezy timeless piece of house music that borders on the majestic realms of progressive. Think about poetry in all forms of life... Connections, adventure, but most of all – music.

Deeper into the trip we glide; first comes Kim Ann Foxman's crisp electro twist on 'I Need A Bit Of Poetry' which maintains that evocative rave vocal but switches up everything else for something much darker. Next we hit 'Are You Not Sleepy?' Inspired by the post-show brain chaos mindset we can all relate to, it's up-tempo, it's trance-influenced, it's Matisa capturing that infuriating but exciting fizzy inspiration and adrenaline rush we all experience after a fulfilling show.

For the final chapter of this accomplished label debut, 'The Curtain Falls', Matisa takes us back to the source of that adrenaline rush. A bubbling disco house thumper, all reverbed drums and big synths, it's inspired by the moment when your set kicks in and the crowd are right behind you every track of the way and you lay your soul down bare for everyone to enjoy. If there's a place more special than that, we've yet to find it. Welcome to Elsewhere... We ain't going nowhere.

Exclusive: Matisa - I Need A Bit Of Poetry

Hailing from Florence cosmic producer Matisa only has few but quite sophisticated releases in her discography. Before taking you elsewhere the artists started her musical output on Optimo with her two tracker Organza until coming together with a bunch of other artists on Butter Sessions. Now the former Roman releases her first EP on DC Salas' and Abstraxion's Biologic Records, which simply goes by the name of The Elsewhere and portrays different episodes of a night (out). The EP jumpstarts with I Need A Bit Of Poetry, which is the most housey take of the three tracker. As the tracks kicks of with a  simple bass line and clap, which is accompanied by a single atmosphere bringing synth, the track develops to a multi-layered House-anthem, including diverse tonal variations creating a rather profound musical piece that has, as the track title suggests, a poetic handwriting and leaves the listener with her Romans-tic approach: a classic beauty. 

Matisa's EP The Elsewhere will be released on Biologic Records on June 12th, 2020.
