Adam Arthur is the kind of character you just couldn’t make up. I first met him while he was dancing in front of me while I played at No Way Back, back when it was at 1515 Broadway. He later asked me to come play his living room in Memphis, “I have a Funktion One sound system” he said. His friends were pretty cool so I said why not? During my set on the dance floor in this small room I saw Larry Heard and Chad White dancing. The next time I played his living room, Larry Heard came over to Adam’s the day before the party with a USB stick around his neck featuring some of his 10,000 unreleased songs, I had specially requested to hear some of his 303 songs, since he had a 303 for a few years but never released anything with it. He also played me a NYE party ad with Robert Owens improvising vocals that was so amazing I had to hear it like 10 times. Adam eventually released on Alleviated and later invited me to play a private pool party once he moved out of the city, but I couldn’t make it. He lives in rural Arkansas where he records music with his massive Buchla system, as he did for this year’s Outer Space Room part of the No Way Back stream, doing a stunning ambient performance directly after Suzanne Ciani’s set. Like I said, he’s someone you just couldn’t make up. 

His day job is putting people to sleep before life saving surgeries, which is perfect because his music lives somewhere in the states between sleeping and waking, a perfect psychedelic dream logic. His tunes like “Down Down Falling Down” are pure somnambulist groove, a uniquely bizarre form of hypnosis that drifts through the dream state into our realm and back, deeply interdimensional. The loose and dirty power of “When I Touch You” still surprises me every time I hear it, the most gentle yet powerful and compelling sleazy house song I can imagine. Many of his sides are represented here, including his experimental formless ambient side in the shape of “Tearing the Television Sky” and the digital bonus track “The Forbidden Creature”. “The Bard’s Tale” closes the EP and balances his hypnotic dream state logic with Azerbaijani Mugham music in something that feels like it would be equally at home on Livity Sound. Live the dream with his debut release on Interdimensional Transmissions.

Rubber welcomes Swedish artist Towa Isling (towLie) under her skitungen alias. While some of you might be familiar with distorted drums and seething synth lines from the käfTen records founder, her skitungen project emits a more brazen energy. Längre än Långtån embodies Towa’s raw and DIY approach, but takes an unexpected turn towards the odd and dreamy. This results in a beautiful assembly combining Towa’s ethereal voice with satisfying weirdo beat music.
The 7inch, pressed on Rubber’s signature high quality white vinyl, is accompanied by a cover designed by Berlin-based multi media artist Puck Verkade.

After the legendary French Ethno-industrial group Vox Populi! faded into obscurity in the early 1990s, members Arash Khalatbari, Ariel Kyrou, Axel Kyrou, Chester Harlan, Mithra, Pierre Jolivet and Francis Manne all embarked on new artistic adventures in their own way. Some, like bassist Francis Lafont aka fr6 Manne, aka Kosa Nostra, aka Kosa and Friends, left Paris to make a profound change in his life. He settled in Lyon and traded his job as a graphic artist and musician for that of a landscape designer. From his pure artistic universe, he has never stopped making music. Alone or with others, he follows his sound inspirations, multidisciplinary, already present on the label Vox Man records, founded in 1982 with Axel Kyrou. Together, as early as 1984, they started publishing the famous "Audiologie" compilations, an audio fanzine presenting a contemporary point of view on the experimental, noisy and avant-garde electronic music scene of the time. In particular, the three "Alterntative Funk" compilations that have become collector's items for fans of weird and ambitious electronic music.

Today, Notte Brigante presents "Kosa and Friends 1987/97", twelve previously unreleased recordings that illustrate Francis Laffont's ongoing musical creation following the dissolution of the group Vox Populi! With the music and video collective "Kosa and Friends," he welcomes attentive listeners into an eccentric world of pop and poetry, experimentation and groove. Kosa blurs the lines between proto funk and post punk, indus and cold wave, all steep and intriguing sonic territories among which Francis and his collaborators navigate endlessly.
The cover of the record is an "action painting" by fr6 Manne. A collage which underlines the experimentalism of the music by a crossed and unique composition. This cover reminds us of fr6 Manne's graphic work, which has appeared on many album covers (Vox Populi, Bain Total) and compilations (notably Audiologie, released in 1988, accompanied by his fanzine named Ethniques Urbaines).

Through an audacious collection of sounds and visions, this album testifies and documents the unexplored universe of a visionary musician of the French avant-garde and his peer group.

After a territory drilling, playing tons of gigs, here is the debut album, as a manifesto from the multi-instrumentist and dedicated to experimentation artist : Alban Mercier.

Few years of traveling, digging and engraving the materials and influences, Alban is a perpetual-movement, a never-ending quest far from any boundaries, or fences of the genres.

This multi-talented artist merges in this full-length many of his influences from ritualistic wishpered musics and mythisicms from autoctones communities from far east to the early industrials dubish sonorities and rythms such as a Scorn could produce if he was producing, still.

He drawn and cut the lines of this 8-track album and recorded them with the help of our beloved Paulie Jan at Agit Prop Studio late summer 2022.He also offers the artworks in order to give an object from its own. Very personal and dedicated.

Dark Entries’ resident scuzzmasters De-Bons-en-Pierre return with the Card Short of a Full Deck EP, featuring six tracks of their signature sludge. In 2016, Beau Wanzer and Maoupa Mazzochetti fused forces in order to infect the world with their mutant analog strain, a noxious hybrid of 80’s DIY cassette electronics and 90’s Birmingham techno. Card Short of a Full Deck follows 2017’s Crepes EP and 2019’s EP No. 1 and EP No. 2, all released via Dark Entries. Their latest salvo features six tracks composed for a live performance in 2019. While a damaged sense of whimsy has pervaded their previous work, Card Short sees the duo ramping up the absurdity to obscene levels. Skittering rhythms dance over ghoulish basslines and haunting, rave-evocative chords on cuts “Le Râle du Mâle Alpha” and “Puddle Points”. Elsewhere, like on “Card Short of a Full Deck” and “Accidental Surgeries”, contorted vocals battle careening synths amidst post-apocalyptic waste. This deck’s not just short, it’s also full of jokers The sleeve for Card Short of a Full Deck was designed by Eloise Leigh, and features a punk zine xerox aesthetic with playing card motifs.

»sichten« refers both to »opinions« as well as the »examination of material«. in lose sequence, we will invite friends and colleagues, but especially music lovers to share their opinions on music with us or to look through their collected materials in order to present music that tends to be out of the focus of current media channels.

as a label for electronic music our focus is on examining exactly this genre. but in the context of the series, we are rather looking for more hidden, unknown, perhaps forgotten music. we want to present the yet undiscovered, and also offer a platform for other cultural environments with different musical approaches.

each issue will be supervised and compiled by a curator. an introductory text shall explain the artistic approach of the respective curator. in this sense, the format of a double lp can only provide a first insight and wants to invite to a more in-depth research.

for the first issue of the series, »sichten 1«, we asked frank bretschneider to compile his own, very personal selection of current electronic music. his choice fell on six artists, whose different styles meander between accessible music on the one hand and very abstract compositions on the other hand.
