The KLF - Chill Out

Fresh from a debut LP and three massive singles Christian Smith is set to deliver what is one of his most important and personal projects to date, his remixes of Carl Craig&#8217;s seminal At Les, on his Tronic imprint this Summer.

One of Smiths favourite pieces of music, At Les, has been a remix target of his for a long time but earlier this year inspiration and motivation combined and resulted in two brilliant interpretations which were immediately sent to Carl Craig, purely out of respect. Craig loved them, granted his permission and approval for a special remix package release on Tronic and now, here we are with one of the biggest releases of 2010.

Delivered in both Tronic Treatment and Hypnotica Remix forms, Smith has taken the originals warmth, musicality and emotion and given them the sort of energy and power which has made him one of the most bankable producers of recent years.

The Tronic Treatment remix starts slow but with careful and patient layering of melodies builds to an epic, peak time track which takes on an almost orchestral feel while the aptly titled Hypnotica Remix takes a slightly more aggressive, loopier and hypnotic take.

Gilles Peterson-endorsed Bristolian, Typesun, makes his next chess move following on from a queue of primo productions over the last few years. "The PL", which featured the softly softly croons of an anonymous vocalist, was an undisputed 2013 jewel. "Water Song" was a swaddling pool of Latin loveliness; so good we had to take a dive ourselves. Now he's recruited MOBO-award winning jazz quartet Empirical’s Lewis Wright (vibraphone) and top guitar session player Miles James alongside a group of Bristol’s finest musicians for "Make It Right". Infused with smoke-tinted funk and pinned down by Typesun’s finely-honed production chops, it's the ideal mid-night foot-shifter.

Space Coast - Get Away (JKriv Remix)

Lobster Theremin's sublabel Distant Hawaii, which so far seems more house and balearic orientated than its cousin, was featured in our Top 100 2015 with the summery track "Bill Loves You" by Hidden Spheres. The label's second release is the "Secret Island" EP by newcomer and London-based producer Tony Donson aka DJ Sonikku, and it doesn't disappoint! The EP's opener"Land Of Sky" premiered here sets the tone with a tough beat backed by a hopping FM bass, house chords and an overall early 90s feel. Lasse Winkler alias ACUD gelangte über Umwege zu dem Sound, der ihn heute ausmacht. In seiner Jugend fing er, inspiriert von Alben wie Torch’s „Blauer Samt“, mit dem Schreiben von Rap-Texten und dem Musizieren am Rechner an. Das erste Mal „Extrawelt“ hören, das erste „Fusion Festival“ gingen jedoch nicht spurlos an ihm vorbei. Zuerst mit dem Duo „Beatmörtelz“, jetzt alleine als „ACUD“, sieht er die treibende Kraft stets in mal episch großflächigen, mal knarzend verzerrten Melodieläufen. Immer wieder ertönt in seinen Tracks auch seine klare Stimme, die einen wichtigen Part in seiner Musik einnimmt. 2012 gründete er zusammen mit ein paar Artgenossen das Label KELLER, spezialisiert auf „visuelle“ Tanzmusik.

The world of noon would be the most captivating expedition on which they had embarked yet. The sun shone for twenty four continuous hours, day and night were at one. This was a place with no darkness, simply endless, enchanting daylight. The voyage might last them a lifetime, they would sail across the galaxies, until they reached the world of noon.
Khidja are seemingly unstoppable at present. Following a string of releases for Love On The Rocks, Malka Tuti, Bahnsteig 23 and more they have decided to launch their own label alongside Borusiade, The Holy Fix and Utopus.

Harvey Sutherland’s latest 12” marks the inaugural release for Clarity Recordings, an imprint established by Sutherland for modern Australian records.

The first new music from the Melbourne producer since last year’s cuts for MCDE, the double A-side Priestess / Bravado features his live trio Bermuda at full tilt, with an ensemble of hand clapping friends. Self-described “lounge room disco burners”, the record summons the groove experiments of Patrick Adams, Bill Laswell and Arthur Russell, while retaining Harvey’s soulful tones and club-ready arrangements.

Priestess evolves slowly, a nine-minute mind dance that ultimately reaches a celestial state. Sutherland’s piano lines bounce off drummer Graeme Pogson’s unwavering four-on-the-floor, while one-man string section Tamil Rogeon travels skyward. Live standout Bravado is played with determined precision, locking into a tough backbeat that only breaks once Sutherland’s warbling lead solo approaches its resonant peak.
