Suction Records presents a new split-12-inch by label alumnus June and Lowfish - “C.D.S.N.” (suction038) is 4 tracks of classic Suction-style melodic analog electro. 300 copies on ORANGE vinyl.

Berlin’s June first appeared on Suction Records with his 2015 debut album of wave-inspired electro, “Dominion.” Here, June opens the 12” with “Cynthia 84,” a a lush, beatless Tangerine Dream-scape, thick with analog arpeggiations and gorgeous melodies. “Navigation” closes proceedings with a driving, dark electro/wave dance track.

Toronto’s Lowfish co-founded Suction Records in 1997, and has been a staple of the label ever since. Lowfish appearances have been few and far between in recent years, but he’s returned here in finest form. “Dead Specimen” is clinical and pounding electro, while side B’s opener ”Scarborough Brutalist" is a prime example of Lowfish’s patented melodic electro style, with catchy, melancholy analog melodies cascading over slow but slamming 808 beats.

Couteau Latex is a US-Swiss duo formed by Seth Sutton (Useless Eaters, Life Trap) and Lise Sutter (Maraudeur, The Staches). "Décadanse", their first EP, comes after two 7" released by Goner Records, an iconic figure of Memphis's punk scene.

Mostly recorded in 2015 between Switzerland and USA on a 4-track recorder, 'Décadanse' delivers mechanic and melancholic post-punk tunes, interconnecting European minimal synth and US punk traditions. Here, the bass is groovy and leading, the vocals are haunting, half-spoken/half-sung, the sound dusty. If we stoop to make comparisons, Couteau Latex reminds us some of our personal French idols like Deux, singing about the cigarette smoke left at night by a bunch of boys " à la démarche fauve"...

Degradia (2018) is a sound work by Anni Puolakka and Miša Skalskis, originally made for an exhibition of the same name. They were inspired by some old Finnish poems in which vulva plays a central part and becomes a powerful character of its own right. Parts of Degradia are translated and altered lines from these poems, for example, where vulva is likened with a biting dog's jaws and a running wolf's gums.

Dans Montpellier, Töfie guidée par les circonstances de ses rencontres avec des artistes issus de la scène alternative franco-belge dresse une carte de la création souterraine en rebaptisant leurs titres d’après la ville qui les a vu naître.

Après l'électronica tantôt douce ou tranchante d'un premier opus, "Powers of Ten" (2015), qui déjà surprenait par sa production étoffée dans le giron du très lo-fi et inventif label montpelliérain Linge Records, Tofië durcissait le son depuis les entrailles de la Terre avec un "From Earth" (2018) aux beats massifs et aux productions granuleuses, plus sombre et tellurique, entre synthwave, trip-hop sismique et réminiscences industrielles.

Le point commun entre ces deux albums à l'univers très personnel, à la fois stratosphérique et caverneux, futuriste et tribal, pop et aventureux ? La voix, élément central dont les circonvolutions décomplexées explorent les sonorités de plusieurs langues, du Français à l'Anglais en passant par l'Allemand et même l'Islandais, symbole d'une fascination auquel rend hommage en 2019 l'EP Seasick enregistré avec Dubix, ami beatmaker rencontré en ces terres de feu et de glace.

Aussi chamanique qu'éthéré, le chant de la musicienne, son instrument originel qui la poussera en 2012 sur la voie de l’instrumentation et de la production pour en développer l'écosystème mi analogique mi digital, n'est pas pour peu de chose dans la dimension organique et à fleur de peau que revêtent ces ambivalentes fééries du caveau, déjà comparées à Fever Ray, Gary Numan ou Anne Clark. Mais c'est avant tout par la maturité de ses compositions métamorphes annonçant bien des pérégrinations soniques que Töfie magnétise l'auditeur sur disque comme sur scène."
