Melómana opens the year with a compilation that brings together producers who have marked and defined the musical orientation of the label. Its reference 039 is not only a testimony of long-term work, it is also the announcement of what is to come this year 2024.
The compilation brings together songs by artists such as Panka Panka, Azaria, Yahaira, JGR, Jackwasfaster, Ludviq, Nick Hanzo, Macaulay, Mijo, Pastor in Vegas, Rubinskee, Ademarr, Joseeph. Established talents on the scene, as well as emerging projects, offering an approach as designed for the track as it is for home listening. Altogether, we find fused rhythms and rich soundscapes that lead us to an exploration as fluid as it is captivating. The album offers us a dynamic contrast that shows the versatility of a timeless project, created from talent, meticulousness and sonic coherence.The level of production of these guys is intense but, on the other hand, the care of the sounds they release is at the level of those who do things because they want and with the time they really need. The tracks have strength and jump over the prevailing conventions, knowing how to avoid the most recurrent rawness and darkness, seeking dance but without predictable tricks and without exceeding an understandable level of experimentation suitable for the dance floor.
We could say that each producer summarizes their intentions in this compilation, seeking novelty without losing nostalgia, that they play with the genre but without falling into predictable tricks, nor into the arrogance of those who get wrapped up in a genre or mannerism to demonstrate that They have personality. And this is just the beginning, because this year Melómana is going to bring us many surprises.

Bruit Fantôme. That's what we call tinnitus. It's a sometimes incessant whistling sound that comes unexpectedly and whose origin seems mysterious. It's also the name of an enigmatic character born from the sequencers of an MAO software and a love of jazz without reference points.

And while Bruit Fantôme's rhythms are unfailingly precise, the punk spirit and elements of surprise intrude at every interstice of his music. With synthwave layers painted on broken kicks and nebulous acid melodies, he transports listeners into a space-time rift, heading for 80s Detroit.

His new EP Egypte Pyramide is a vibrant tribute to this era, marked by artists such as Egyptian Lover and Drexciya, at the crossroads of cybernetic techno and organic hypnosis. A-Sim and Evenn add a new dimension to the whole with their remixes bridging the gap with today's club scene.

Toronto based @Dacou serves up the latest instalment in the Sinchi Edits series.

Words from the man himself...

'Kenedougou Foly' is a song kindred to its composer, Neba Solo - both are rooted in the historical and cultural legacy of Mali and Western Africa. Hailing from the Kenedougou region of southeastern Mali, Solo and the balafon (modified xylophone) masterclass he provides on the title track of his debut album are a fitting tribute to his homeland, the historic Kenedougou Kingdom of the Traorè dynasty.

The song begins with an invocation or call to attention "Ayeh Na”, as Neba Solo begins to provide commentary on the socio-economic issues faced by the people of Kenedougou. The song also speaks about the environmental degradation of the land and acknowledges the struggles faced by its people, while calling for collective action from the world to address these issues facing Western Africa.

I chose this particular song because I’ve always appreciated the sound and emotional response of West African music, Mali in particular. From Oumou Sangare and Fatoumata Diawara to the Tuareg sounds of Bombino and Tinariwen, Malian sounds resonate worlds over despite people not immediately understanding the words being spoken. Kenedougou Foly is such a track that just elicits a heartfelt feeling, stemming from Neba Solo’s infectious vocals, a call and response from backup vocalists, as well as his prodigious bafalon playing that is at the core of his genius.

My approach was quite simple. As folk songs of this archetype are usually bereft of electronic or Western dance elements, I added what I felt was necessary to provide a high-energy and hard-hitting version to be played out and played loud. Starting and ending with Neba Solo’s call for attention seemed fitting, sandwiched between Italo-style arp bass, some 303 acid sounds, and a 4/4 beat to tie everything together.

SINCHI EDITS 24 - Neba Solo - Kenedougou Foly (Dacou Edit)

After the successful launch of "Recuerdo Futuro" produced by Moisees and ZEA, both based in CDMX; we all decided to re-release it as an EP, now loaded with remixes and a new original. “Recuerdo Futuro “is a flash of the forgotten rave parties of the nineties, the nostalgia of a past that was not lived. For the second original “Ondas” it combines House, trance and some Indie vibes, as a result it’s a dancefloor killer.

Followed by the remixes, for the first remix we have one of the most talented producers in Mexico and founder of Duro together with Moisees, Theus Mago, arrives with a "Sexy" and quite groovy version. Followed by the Mexican star Mystery Affair, who lands with a very trance and acidic remix. Finally we have a new collaboration between Ludviq & Rina, with a darker and deeper remix, with hypnotic and mystical vocals, perfect to close the EP.

The Ep is  well-crafted offering some unique sound, while maintaining a cohesive theme and vibe. It's a testament to the creativity and collaboration, definitely one of our finest releases.

Following their successful ‘New Era’ EP which was on high rotation on Berlin’s RBB Radioeins, and lending their remix skills to Local Suicide on their Eros Anikate album, Boys’ Shorts are yet again back on Iptamenos Discos with ‘Something to Forget’. The duo consists of Vangelis and Tareq who have been friends for over a decade and have had an incredibly successful year, with a string of highly praised releases on Permanent Vacation, Live At Robert Johnson, HE.SHE.THEY & Pets Recordings, and DJ sets in esteemed venues including London’s E1 and Berlin’s Berghain as well as remixing Alison Goldfrapp and supporting her on tour.  

‘Something To Forget’, the first single and title track starts with a strong kick and a prominent snare which punches through the mix and becomes a driving force which anchors the track. The bouncy and energetic bassline is contrasted with lyrics which are somewhat melancholic, however they are performed in a way that gives them an underlying sense of optimism.  

‘Something To Forget’ is sure to be a revered release by Boys’ Shorts and another exciting addition to the Iptamenos Discos catalogue. The full EP including both remixes will be released on all digital/streaming platforms and 12” vinyl on June 14th, 2024.

Copenhagen-based artist Silent Cure is known for producing in a wide music spectrum, from beautiful ambient and jazz-infused tracks to high-energy synth and electro music. This new EP, released on Tronik Youth's label NEIN Records, is one of those high-energy releases! The EP title track, 'Natural Punk’, is a blend of electronic synth elements and full-blown rock energy, showcasing his deep influences from the early days of Vitalic. The track is throwing synths right in your face in the most punk way! (If you are into electronic rock, you should also check out 'Symphony Octobre' from Silent Cure's first album “An Electronic Jazz Punk Passage Through Dreams” ).

Silent Cure BIO:
Started out as a DJ in 1995, playing at underground parties, and later secured a residency at Kraznapolsky, which was one of
Copenhagen's most renowned clubs for electronic music at the time. Here, you could encounter everyone from Björk to the Danish
Crown Prince on the dance floor, illuminated by strobe and UV lights as the only light sources. (The vinyl days)
In 1999, the artist behind Silent Cure organized a major electronic festival at the Town Hall Square in Copenhagen called "Rave Parade." It was the first of its kind and drew 20,000 ravers. This event was inspired by the German Love Parade and took place annually from 1999 to 2001.
This also resulted in being hired as a Promoter and A&R Assistant for Flex / EMI Records, overseeing artist development, release
parties, radio, club tours, and promoting Music For Dreams in Ibiza.
Later on, Silent Cure was involved in producing music through several projects, playing in Europe and South Asia at parties and festivals like Street Parade, which gathered over one million people in the streets of Zürich. Silent Cure's music falls within the melodic spectrum of IDM, and EBM, Indie-Dance encompassing genres like electro, ambient, and electronica Influenced by the many years following the history of electronic music.

The extremely talented producer Gabe Gurnsey, a regular on Phantasy Sound and member of Factory Floor, puts forward a dancefloor focused remix of ‘Something To Forget’, which ups the tempo and shifts the focus to the bassline, teasing snippets of the vocals initially and only letting them play out in full for a moment after the break.

‘Flying Away’ features washed out synths packed with reverb and dreamy emotion filled vocals that float around your head, and toe the line between happy and sad, never quite landing on either and leaving it up to the listener for interpretation.

Roman DJ and producer, Whitesquare is on remix duties for ‘Flying Away’ and throws away all questions of what tone the track will follow with the introduction of a euphoric and nostalgic piano melody in the breakdown, that will bring a smile to everyone’s face and a wave of positive energy over any dancefloor.
