Adam Pits is back with his second album on Leeds based On Rotation ‘Synthetic Serenity’ represents the next evolutionary step of Adam’s sound design and direction. In stark contrast to his first album, ‘A Recurring Nature’, this new release moves out of the forest and into the digital landscape, capturing the sound of a future world over 8 varied tracks. 

Adam Pits talks about the inspiration behind the new album:

“It’s hard to put into words how much of an impact 2022 had on my life. I could talk for hours about the highs and lows, the journeys, both inside and out of my body. Or I could just make an album. 

Having delved into the deeper reaches of techno and ambient, I wanted to show my appreciation for these genres on the record. Atmosphere, clarity and warmth became the pillars of my new sonic exploration, with stress falling on my signature ‘journeying’ style. The album describes the idea of being at peace with machines and being open to the idea that in the future we will find ourselves more and more involved with one another. 

‘Synthetic Serenity’ is a product of a big energy release. It’s a testament to my acceptance of change in life and I believe it’s a true sign of my sonic evolution”

Berlin-based artist Werner Soyeaux under his stage name Bläck Dävil is a core part of the Berlin collective Ick Mach Welle. Schnäll Schnäll is his debut solo artist EP on Killekill, with own productions accompanied by collaborations with Bettina and DJ Normal 4, alongside remixes by Rhyw and Gesloten Cirkel. The EP opens with the dark intro Alptraum, which Gesloten Cirkel transforms into an ill-tempered acid-electro monster. The title track Schnäll Schnäll provides a stark contrast to these, with bright overtones existing alongside deeply rooted sonic bedrock. Rhyw adds a level of abstraction and futurism with his remix of this track, whilst retaining the dub-influenced vibe of the original. Following on from this Geldschere is collaboration with Düsseldorf artist DJ Normal 4, with Bläck Dävil contributing his own lyrics and voice, to create a track that could be fittingly described as “Acid Punk Rock”! The final track on the release is a cheeky ode to the Ick Mach Welle family. Here the Dävil's passion for Hardtekk, Gabber and similar rough styles of music become clear.

Exactly one year after my 2022 release entitled 'Agitation Propaganda', I return with a collection of new tracks that were produced between the middle of 2022 and early 2023. This 20-track album, as the title suggests, is a tribute to the love affair that I have with making music. In 2023 I celebrate my 40th birthday so I thought it was good timing to release a concept album that pays homage to the one true love that I've ever known- Synthesis ♥️

This album, as with the last, relies heavily on the sounds of classic synthesizers/drum machines like Mono/Poly, MS-20, SH-101, Jupiter-8, Juno-106, SH-2, JX-8P, System 100, Juno 60, JX-3P, TB-303, Polysix, TR-606, OB-8, TR-808, ARP Odyssey, as well as some contemporary additions to my studio like Hydrasynth, System 8, MC-707, MicroFreak, Prophet Rev2, Novation Peak, Minilogue, SE-02, and Microkorg.

The artwork for the album was done by the brilliant artist Kelly Gilleran, who also just so happens to be my long-term girlfriend. She is a pattern designer, painter, and illustrator. Her work can be found here: www.kellygilleran.redbubble.com/

Whatdufaque?! Dutch artist Renée Van Trier is back on Swiss label CAF? for another record! Following her first album released in early 2020, she comes back with "HUMBLE," the soundtrack of her new eponymous show performed at De Pont Museum (NL) and Arsenic (CH).

"At birth you are a promise, but at the same time also the greatest possible risk." Inspired by children's dances on TikTok where happy facades coexist with exploitative backgrounds, Renée Van Trier creates a fantasy world that's anything but Disneyland. You're invited to experience its soundtrack, taking you through dark atmospheres, eerie voices, glitched techno, and uplifting climaxes. Over the course of the 11 tracks, Renée Van Trier morphs into a dolphin, a puppet, and many other different characters, maintaining a blurry border between amazement and creepiness. What does the music of the future sound like? With the current hype, one immediately thinks of AI. An artificial intelligence that knows the history of music as well as the tastes of millions upon millions of people, sorted by age, gender, region or level of education. So everyone will get exactly the music that is somehow already in him or her. New and yet completely familiar. Alexa music. Boooring.

But that's not exactly how the music of the future sounds. Because AI - it may be highly interesting as a "partner" - always works with the past, the tried and tested, the mainstream-coded. Perhaps it can also do things differently, but it lacks economic interests and perhaps a bit of critical theory.

In any case, the music of the future is a music in motion, a music that permanently changes itself and in which one can intervene democratically, anarchically, in solidarity or critically. Music that does not confirm but provokes. A film in which, by the way, "Oval" appears as an act, from 1996, has the fitting subtitle: "Über die Gewalt des Zusammenhangs." ("On the Violence of Context").

Making the future audible in music means listening to it (and processing it accordingly) in such a way that what is possible emerges. Mix and re-mix are the common genre terms for this. However, the words "mixing" and "re-mixing" seem almost a little too gentle for what can actually happen.

Mischpoke. That means, if you take the word at its word, a combination of mixing and kinship. And then there is the (decisive?) push in it, the poke, with which one gives a thing or a being in motion a different direction.

Electronic music in general, remixes in particular, and most especially "Mischpoke", that is also a form of storytelling, of inventing and critiquing the fundamental things in it: space. Time. Subject. Narrating into the future. With music. That's what it's about. Among other things.
