I wanted something to showcase the Ensoniq ESQ-1's latest soundpack, and I love the Goldberg Variations, so here it is.

I have tried to utilise all of the first ten sounds I re-sampled from the ESQ-1 Cartridge VPC-1A 01-10
which are, in order, with Patch Number:

Introducing them in order wasn't really an option, as some work better than others. I transposed a few sections and experimented a bit with the bassline and the melody so that it sounded okay to me.

I really like the organ sound BEGONE in the second passage.

And the STRBAS rocks!!!

I threw KIEV & SEGULS in last as they really, really don't work well with this piece. The KICK 2 sounds nice though.

Bach is great, amazing etc. etc. If you haven't discovered him yet - Do it right now! ; ) Put his midis in a DAW and mess with them. The hours will disappear! It's great fun. Try it. It's what synthesizers were made for.

Piano Sonata No.9 in A-Minor, K. 310: III. Presto

"Fidelio Op. 72 - Overture" by Ludwig van Beethoven

There have been speculations for long enough about tempo indications and metronome figures as regards Beethoven; after intensively studying sources, analysing scores and structural tempi, the Dutchman Harke de Roos casts a new light on the tempo relations. Accordingly, Beethoven's deliberate codification of the figures after 1817 due to his well-known aversion towards the metronome that was just being developed at the time should be taken with a pinch of salt. After all, the maestro wrote to its inventor: 'It is a silly plaything, you have to sense the tempos'. Hence, in accordance with de Roos, tempi are used in this performance of the 2nd Symphony in D major op. 34 in its 'original condition' by the Vienna Symphony Orchestra that extend from a third to half the time of usual performance practice today.

Jeroen de Haan bespeelt het orgel van de Evangelisch-Lutherse kerk in Delft. Live-registratie van concert op 12 oktober 2019.

Het blijft een 'raar' orgel: in de ruimte waar de speeltafel staat is de klank van het bovenwerk niet tot nauwelijks hoorbaar. Met een pedaalbazuin direct achter de manualen valt de klank -voor de organist- van het begeleidende bovenwerk geheel weg. In de kerkruimte klinkt het vele malen beter ; -)
