Episode 396 brings us a mix from another member of the vaunted, DNB Girls clique, Lotus Queen!

Lotus's mix is an eclectic collection of sub genres of DNB, featuring lush, easy steppers, upfront rollers, amen smashers, neuro, and dancefloor tunes, delivered in one mix! Great tune selection for this one!!

Let's meet our dj, Lotus Queen:
Lotus Queen began volunteering at CJSW radio and attended her first rave as a teenager in 1996. Influenced by ska music via the all ages punk scene, she began to delve into the culture of DJing and electronic music, particularly the sounds of jungle that had emerged from the U.K. and Toronto. She was one of the first women to play the genre in the region. Now, over two decades later, she has continued as the voice of Remote Emissions, western Canada’s longest running drum n bass radio program on the FM dial. Since the show’s start in 1997, drum and bass has evolved from a faint rumbling in the corner of Calgary’s rave underground to a mainstay of the city’s musical landscape. Lotus Queen has been honoured to open for some of DNB’s finest, such as DJ Rap, LTJ Bukem, A-Sides, Commix, Aphrodite, Calyx & Teebee and Doc Scott. She has represented DNB Girls at Shambhala’s legendary Ragga Jungle Rinseout, and is currently affiliated with: DNB Girls, Girls On Decks, CJSW 90.9FM, Big Kitty Crew and Tigerstyle DJs. Her DJ sets are always a guaranteed road trip through various eras and styles, with fresh new rollers, liquid vibes plus ragga anthems and nods to the old school for the heads. Iris was introduced to electronic music at age 13, when she first heard “Insomnia” by Faithless on Seattle’s C89.5. Since then, her love affair with the music has only intensified as she has honed a diverse set of tastes and an equally exacting repertoire of skills behind the decks. Her journey has taken her from UK Hard House, into the sounds of Trance and Progressive, finally culminating in her current focus of Deep Drum and Bass, Techno.

Iris has been collaborating on original productions with DnB veteran Quadrant. Their first tune, Anthropocene, was spotted immediately by none other than Goldie himself, and snapped up for the Metalheadz Genesis EP volume 4. Other collaborations, with Quadrant and local legend Kid Hops, have been picked up and supported by Total Science for their CIA imprint, as well as Hospital Recordings, Dispatch and Commercial Suicide.

With an ever growing arsenal of original productions, a host of exclusive tunes from the hottest producers around the world, all held down by meticulous mixing and track selection, Iris is a force to be reckoned with.
