Saltwater Baptism (Wash You Out)

The work is based on the classical passacaglia form. In this version, I have used the piano introduction from Händel/Halvorsen’s “Passacaglia” as a thematic starting point. The remaining music, melody, and lyrics are newly composed by me. The work therefore contains both elements from public domain material and original material.

About Hallvardsson

Hallvardsson explore lyrics that once carried weight in very different times — some written just decades ago, others reaching back five or six hundred years. Many of these texts come from folk songs and ballads of the Nordic countries, especially Norway and Sweden.

Through chords, melodies, and the full range of modern digital tools at our disposal (such as Locic Pro, artificial intelligence, modern synthesizers etc), we reshape these words into new musical forms. The aim isn’t to hide their age, but to let them breathe again — showing how themes that mattered centuries ago still resonate in today’s music.

Hjördis is the pseudonym of the female vocalist on some of the tracks. 

This project is about bridging eras: giving timeless texts a voice in the modern soundscape, while honoring the legacy they carry.
