Gayle San

Gayle Sans career already began in the 90´s in her hometown Singapore. She started as a warmup DJ for Bands such as Kool and the Gang Earth Wind and Fire and the Commodores,in the Top ten club which was the club of that moment on that island. Leaving her native Singapore in 1988,to pursue her dj career in the UK, nobody expected such a massive success for Gayle in the music business. Gayle's first steps into the London clubs were via DJing at record company parties, various one-off guest spots and fashion shows. These slots soon led to Gayle being made resident at 'Reach for the Sky' at London's Limelight club, where she played alongside global DJs which Gayle describes as "the steepest learning curve possible". Having honed her DJing skills and broadened her understanding of music, Gayle began to experiment with the harder side of dance music, particularly the lesser known techno sounds coming into Britain from Europe and the US of that time. Her chance to pioneer this music in England came when Gayle became resident at Universe's legendary Final Frontier club, at Club U.K. in south London, which then moved on to become Universe Voyager at their new club, the Complex in north London,and she was also resident at all the Tribal Gatherings Festivlas. Final frontier was widely regarded as one of the best club nights in the world, it was not long before Gayle had amassed a following of techno pilgrims who would make journeys from as far as Edinburgh to hear her play. Gayle's reputation of her 3 decks mixing skills and dj sets spread like wildfire over the techno centres of Europe, most notably a residency once a month at the legendary Omen club in Frankfurt, the socalled 'Mecca of techno' that opened doors.Other European and American dates have included some of the most underground clubs in the world,from playing at high profile parties for Prince,Chaka Khan and Kylie minogue to name a few, to playing clubs like Bionic in Detroit, Pure Pleasure parties in Chicago, Soma in Montreal, Twilo in New York, Zouk Club in Singapore, Florida 135 in Spain, Fuse Club in Belgium,M47 in Hungary and many more all over Europe ,South America and the U.S.A. In 2000 she was voted number 6. of the most popular international DJs in Germany. In regards to the massive competition of the worlds DJs,and to be the only female dj in the top ten, it was an honour of her hard work in the last years. DJing has naturally led to various studio work and successfully running her own vinyl label Equator from 1998 till 2005. Gayle has developed a sound that takes the intelligent beats of the underground, funky/hard/groove techno sound mixed with her very own style. Gayle loves producing on her own but also enjoys collaborations with other producers such as Cari Lekebusch ,on their electro studio projects as well as a b2b dj set together which they have performed at The Awakenings ,Holland to absorb/exchange outside creativity .

In Fall 2011 it was time for Gayle to start her own new digital label "GSR" (gayle san recordings).
The first kick off release is a compilation featuring tracks from Tony Rohr, Ken Ishii, Cristian Varela, Go Hiyama, Mark Morris, A.Paul, Virgil Enzinger to name a few and of course two of her own productions on the compilation.

We here at Second State are thrilled to bring you our new concept entitled HUB. While most labels these days are doing various artists releases to showcase the overall talent on their label, we thought it would be better suited for both our listeners and ourselves to break the mold and bring you a series of true collaborations. Each HUB release will feature a single artist teaming up with others from the Second State family to create an EP of authentic musical compromises. A place where multiple minds find a harmony somewhere outside their own identity and each collaboration conceives a genuinely unique artifact. With this, there is no one we would rather have kick off the series than the man behind the massive EPs; 'Throwl' and 'Doch', Stephan Hinz with HUB One!

Of course it would only be right to kick off the first track of the first HUB One way. An alliance with, Pan-Pot. "Tension' is a heavy number with just a few key elements, it's a slow lurking journey through a dark forest at night. As each bush and branch is pushed aside and every step inches closer to a destination unknown, the pressure builds. Soon, without knowing, you are in the depths of a jungle with no way back and only one decision. Keep going.

A great philosopher (Samuel Johnson, not Ebeneezer Goode) once wrote… “our brightest blazes of gladness are commonly kindled by unexpected sparks”. While it would be a stretch to suggest the Drumcode artist roster are closet philosophy fans, once one begins to unravel the tale that led to Jel Ford remixing the 2012 Alan Fitzpatrick hit ‘For An Endless Night’ and it is impossible to escape the unexpected enterprise and spirit of surprise that are at the heart of this exciting collaboration.

As fans of Adam Beyer’s label will testify, the two Drumcode names have more in common than just a label stable, they also share common ground with the peak-time melodic sound that has delivered many of the labels most memorable output. Ford being a much more recent addition than Fitzpatrick, whose history with the seminal Swedish imprint stretches back to 2009, however Ford’s history within techno goes back even further having released multiple EP’s through the early noughties on vintage UK techno labels including Dave Angel’s Rotation Records, Billy Nasty’s Tortured Records, Primate Recordings and Ford’s own Jericho imprint.

It is within this shared passion for uplifting synths and big room melodies that the ‘unexpected spark’ of creativity that led to Ford remixing Fitzpatrick can be found. An long-time admirer of Fitzpatrick’s work, Ford had developed an idea for his alternative version and secretly worked on the remix long before any discussion of the project had taken place. Once given the draft version, Fitzpatrick immediately endorsed the remix, excited to have an updated version to breath new life into what had become a familiar staple of his sets for the past two years. Parts were swapped and the end result being the barnstorming end-of-night monster presented here. A track that will be familiar with many having been the subject of much social-media furor since it first surfaced back in Autumn 2014.

Hoffnung (vgl. mittelniederdt.: hopen „hüpfen“, „[vor Erwartung unruhig] springen“, „zappeln“) ist eine zuversichtliche innerliche Ausrichtung, gepaart mit einer positiven Erwartungs­haltung, dass etwas Wünschenswertes in der Zukunft eintritt, ohne dass wirkliche Gewissheit darüber besteht. Das kann ein bestimmtes Ereignis sein, aber auch ein grundlegender Zustand wie etwa anhaltende Gesundheit oder finanzielle Absicherung. Hoffnung ist die umfassende emotionale und unter Umständen handlungsleitende Ausrichtung des Menschen auf die Zukunft. Hoffend verhält sich der Mensch optimistisch zur Zeitlichkeit seiner Existenz.
