Meet VJTHEDJ (aka @pumpdabeat) VJTheDJ, known as the Godfather of Philadelphia Ballroom, is an iconic musical figure whose influence on the city’s ballroom, nightlife, and club scene has been monumental, to say the least. Since founding PUMPDABEAT in 1998, he has not only shaped the soundscape of most of Philadelphia’s Ballroom/LGBTQ+ music scene but has also made ballroom culture accessible to a broader, yet personal, audience.

His music acts as a time capsule, bridging eras and decades, with each beat and krash meticulously crafted to draw the vogue femme deeper into the experience. VJ’s sound is more than just familiar. It’s almost otherworldly, delivering nuances with the care of a youthful spirit, capturing moments even from times listeners may not have lived through. Whether he is wearing a producer’s hat, a DJ hat, or the mentor hat, VJ has been instrumental in guiding a lot of Black LGBTQ+ artists to self-driven innovative creation, such as @djdiorcartel , The Voice of the Renaissance Tour @kevinjzprodigy, the extremely talented and classical @jukeboxx.xx , @djdeliiish and the list goes on…

This, alongside his superb DJing skills, continues to cement his legacy as the standing House Director for Time Machine Records and father-figure of the Philadelphia ballroom sound.
