Since the release of Volume 1 in 2012, Craig has barely had a chance to change his socks, presenting his massively popular radio show on BBC 6 Music and having been on an almost constant DJ tour - dragging his Trunk Of Funk far and wide to play for increasingly large audiences, including kicking off the Glastonbury Festival with a 4 hour set, causing all manner of musical mayhem at WOMAD 2013, tearing the roof off the Soundwave festival in Croatia - as well as hosting his regular club nights at Manchester's Band On The Wall - with block rocking live shows from names like US funk legend Lee Fields, Spain's Sweet Vandals and Australia's toughest raw funk collective Deep Street Soul amongst many others.

And so - the man, the myth, the legend, the not-so-tall, the not-so-dark, the not-so-handsome Craig Charles has hand picked fresh and classic nuggets from the very best soul, funk & dance floor grooves around for Volume 2 of his top selling compilations series.

This edition contains some 100% completely brand new exclusive tracks not heard anywhere before, including Dr Rubberfunk's 'Creek Walk', Emma Beatson and The Hawkmen's track 'Do It', and Lack Of Afro's 'The Outsider - Part 2' which was recorded specifically for this album.

You have to hear Cookin' On 3 Burners Hammond funk version of Gary Numan's Cars, you will flip your lid twice when you hear funk royalty Fred Wesley & Anthony Joseph join forces on Mops Mop's Run Around, and your ears will buy you flowers in gratitude once you have treated them to The Hot 8 Brass Bands version of The Specials Ghost Town and the original acid jazz troubadours James Taylor Quartets debut 1987 single Blow Up!

Of his second selection for Freestyle Craig says: "Whilst my 6 Music radio show features much of the music from the golden age of American soul & funk music, my compilations for Freestyle are a showcase for the contemporary bands that are all part of the worldwide response to the original pioneers and innovators of that sound - all the artists featured are doing their funky thing now - this is no history lesson!"

There are indeed living legends featured, not only Jocelyn Brown featuring on Jessica Lauren's funking gospel style stomper Happiness Train, but two appearances from the recently honoured Omar LyeFook MBE - who not only guests on Lack Of Afro's remix of The Hidden Jazz Quartett's High Heels, but also as impressively on the brand new version of his massive early 90's hit There's Nothing Like This - which features bass player to the gods Pino Palladino.

The Craig Charles Funk & Soul Club Vol 2 is the gift that just keeps on giving - it's like having Craig himself DJ-ing in your house. This selection is his greatest yet - and if you don't wear out your carpet getting down to these tracks - you should check your pulse - as you may already be dead!

It's been a while since we've put out some music huh? Well we apologize for that. We've been growing at such a fast rate and we had to put our focus on to other avenues within Soulection to make this the best platform possible for many years to come. 

With that said, we are sooooo excited to bring your attention to a new artist who you most likely have never heard of (that's about to change) from Wales, UK. We were put on to this talented individual by our friend @helios5th when we first traveled to London back in May. Something about PYRMD's sound just captured us instantly. It's very unique and his melodies just capture your mind like your favorite incense.

PYRMDPLAZA is currently attending the University of Wales and is studying 'Creative Sound and Music'. He uses Ableton but started off with FLStudio. PYRMD started making music about 6-7 years ago and created privately for many years until the beginning of this year when he realized that he wanted to showcase his music. He definitely made the right choice otherwise we wouldn't be here at this very moment. Goes to show you how important social media is and how simply hitting "upload" can change your whole life by connecting with the world.

Omar There's Nothing Like This (Feat. Pino Palladino)

Isaac Childs was born to create. The Brooklyn-born composer, producer, pianist, keyboardist, engineer and bassist has been flying through scales and chord progressions since grammar school. Affectionately referred to as the “man with the magic hands,” he has an innate ability to emotionally connect with his audiences - often being told after shows “you were playing just what was I feeling or needed.”

Isaac’s sound transcends a diverse musical landscape. Through rooted in jazz, his personal compositions reveal his interests and influences within the genres of classical, R&B, funk, hip-hop, and, even, rock music.

His first artistic talents were discovered at the tender age of three, when he began filling his first sketchbook with stick figures and drawings of Toucan Sam and Sugar Bear from his favorite cereal boxes. His creativity and passion even merited him a scholarship at Pratt Institute while in elementary school

But, Isaac was drawn to music.

Moving from visual to musical arts, Isaac was introduced to the recorder flute. His father, a renowned musician and music director in his own right, recognized his son’s interest in music and introduced to the piano. At the age of 13, Isaac had become initiated in the world of music, gaining a solid grasp of music theory, composition and finger techniques. He later learned became adept in playing the bass in his junior high school pep and jazz bands, as well as signing up for music workshops and exercises whenever he could.

Today, Isaac continues to hone his skills and share his talents with the world. While releasing his own original and reworked compositions, Isaac has amassed an impressive body of work. He has also been assisting in music direction, as well as playing the keyboard, for touring gospel artist, Wallena Alston, for the past three years. He also provides backing keys, synth effects and production for spoken soul rocker (i am) isis. His production credits include Wallena Alston, Tongo and Ill Famous.

He is now preparing the final touches on his, as of yet, untitled, debut solo project, set for release in the summer of 2012
