While at the 18inch Journey in 2022 my friends and I sat together on a Sabbath afternoon together to write and create with no strict agenda. We had only one prompt, “What does freedom look like, feel like, sound like?” We all took a moment to wait with God, reflect & free-write about it. Afterwards, every person got behind the mic to release their ideas. Later, I arranged these ideas everyone made into this collaborative track, which documents what “Freedom” felt like to each of us during that season.

To my friends that dared to be vulnerable together as family and create: You’re an inspiration. Your trust in me as a host for that time humbles me and makes my dreams of collaboration & creating ever more tangible! So much love.

Afara îs a Nigerian, Yoruba word for "Bridge" and it's the vision for why I create. I've been learning that it isn't about what I accomplish, but rather, it's about who I am becoming. Creating is a difficult yet joyous bridge that I am drafting to connect further with my true self and to connect with God in my neediest and most vulnerable places. By doing this healing work, I can make myself truly knowable to others around me and build more secure, loving and fulfilling bridges with those around me. My hope is that my music also carves out a well-worn path in which others can empathize, come behind and discover the saving & restorative knowledge of God's love. 

Afara isn't just a name. My music is only a bridge & It's the vision for why I create.

I'm so so proud to share this latest batch of music with you guys. Each chef's story is meaningful in a different way and I'm thrilled that some of them belong to those who have been historically overlooked and/or mishandled.

Each episode of Chef's Table presents a unique challenge in finding a musical voice appropriate not only to place and scene, but also to the inexplicable dynamics of the human journey. In some cases it took genuine soul searching, more late nights than I care to admit, being plain old wrong and lots of heart to produce a worthy idea. But it's worth every drop of sweat if a story moves even a single person for a single minute, so thank YOU for searching this music out and for your attention :)

As Always I'd love to honor the musicians who make the pencil dance on the page. The Bratislava Symphony Orchestra was conducted by David Hernando Rico and the Symphonica Recording Orchestra was conducted by Vladimir Martinka.
