A dark hardcore band from Edmonton. Heavy and discomforting. 

Crossing the Rubicon is a progressive instrumental band that fuses the intensity of metal with the fluidity of jazz and fusion. Founded by guitarist and composer Alejandro in Dayton, Ohio, the project began as a solo endeavor and has grown into a full ensemble defined by complex rhythms, soaring melodies, and the unmistakable voice of the saxophone within modern progressive soundscapes.

Since its early releases (Ascension, Bloom, Matter), the band has pushed boundaries with genre-bending compositions that combine the heaviness of Meshuggah, the harmonic sophistication of Plini, and the groove of Animals as Leaders. Along the way, Crossing the Rubicon has shared the stage with national acts such as Yngwie Malmsteen and earned recognition from publications including It Djents (now Everything Is Noise) and Prog Sphere.

After years of evolution, lineup changes, and experimentation, the group entered a new era in 2024 with a revitalized roster:

Gabriel Coffing – Drums (Columbus, OH)

Madison Jones – Guitar (Washington State)

Adam Knox – Bass (Dayton, OH)

Jonathan Baldwin – Saxophone (Dayton, OH / Las Vegas, NV)

Together, this lineup is preparing the forthcoming concept album Knowledge (2025). The record represents both a reinvention and a culmination of the band’s journey, exploring themes of transformation and identity through a progressive metal lens while blending influences from deathcore, funk, avant-garde jazz, and beyond into a cohesive sonic narrative.

With dynamic compositions that shift between technical precision and melodic introspection, Crossing the Rubicon creates music that is both cerebral and visceral. On SoundCloud, listeners can explore the band’s evolving catalog, from early epics like Bloom to the psychedelic explorations of Metempsychosis and the powerful new direction that defines their current era.

Since the age of 3 Doc has had extensive vocal training and musical instrument training. Originally from Winnipeg, Doc joined the Winnipeg boys’ choir in his early pre-teens. From this he was chosen for Canada's youth choir that toured across the nation. 

Doc ventured into musical projects of his own Starting in Winnipeg shortly after. He started off by playing percussion, moving on to bass guitar, acoustic guitar, piano, then to vocals with a band called Intonal, winning several battles of the bands contests and playing with such artists as "Chysuga" and "Autobody". From 2006 on, forming several other projects in Vancouver (Shrines/Karma Cartel) Doc went on to do more solo projects and became self-taught in various recording/studio programs and techniques. May, 2009 Doc joins metal/hard rock band "Inside It Failed" to become the new frontman/P.R. Since then Doc remains with Inside It Failed.

Inside It Failed has now shared the stage with such acts as "Armchair Cynics", and "Bif Naked" to name a few. With several Canadian tours under their belt, they've now toured across North America with professional management and indie label teams.

Donkey Punch Recording Company, generally known as Donkey Punch, is an independent record label based in London. There is also NY division that handles releases in the United States, as well as a Tokyo branch that handles any releases in the Japan.
