I put together a collection of songs last year as part of World Goth Day for KEXP. This was when the pandemic was hitting super hard and I remember for some reason, I was still feeling super inspired to put this together. Maybe it was from being alone and just sitting on a bank of cool songs and realizing that one of the best feelings ever is listening to good music. 

This isn't anything fancy, it's just a collection of songs that I was really into at the time (still love). So sit back and enjoy :)

TRTD Mix 003: Bézier

t's fair to say few people ensconced in electronic music aren't familiar with White Material, with the label's exposure growing exponentially in the period since DJ Richard's label partner Quinn 'Young Male' Taylor graced our podcast series last spring. "Tell them to press more records. Ridiculous," is a comment spied only this morning on the ever spiteful universe of social networking by one of those unfortunate to have missed out on the four White Material records issued thus far. Four sold out 12"s tell their own story, but White Material also seems special because of the distinct musical styles of those artists who have thus far contributed, with the loquacious and mischievous house of Galcher Lustwerk complemented by the more thumping styles of DJ Richard and Young Male.

2014 will see the feverish appetite for White Material's records being somewhat sated, with the first three releases from Young Male, DJ Richard and Galcher Lustwerk all set to be repressed next month, and it will be intriguing to see how the label grows as they begin to introduce some of the other names associated with the crew, such as Alvin Aronson and Morgan Louis. DJ Richard is in London this weekend spinning records at the latest Find Me In The Dark night at Corsica Studios, billed alongside Head High aka Shed, Pariah, and Marquis Hawkes - the seventy minutes of house music included in this mix offer a good taste of what to expect.

After starting the mini Dekmantel Selectors podcast series two years ago, it feels like a tradition to bring it back to life. In the next couple of months, we will release 6 podcasts by some of the exciting artists from the line-up. This year’s podcasts challenges the artists to work around a theme or idea they picked theirselves. After Strange Boutique, it's Lena Willikens turn, who just released her brand new Selectors Compilation on Dekmantel Records as well.

It's safe to say that Willikens is one of the most delightfully unpredictable selectors we know. An affiliate of the exuberant Cómeme camp as well as Dusseldorf's renowned Salon des Amateurs establishment, Willikens' sets are built around her unceasingly eclectic tastes and ongoing infatuation with unusual sounds, making her primed again to move the Selectors dancefloor with the best bits of audio she's been able to dig up from the more twisted caverns of electronic music.

In anticipation of that, she put together a stunning mix which include heavy hitters from artists like Meat Beat Manifesto to Metamorphosis, towLie, Single Cell Orchestra and many, many more fantastic artists. Lena on her contribution: "I recorded this mix while moving from place to place in Amsterdam, trying to settle down. Huge thanks to De School which gave me access to their basement when I was trying to find a place to record."

Selectors Podcast 020 - Lena Willikens

Rising Polish DJ and producer Bartosz Kruczyněski is a man of many aliases. His releases come in the form of ambient and minimal leaning works under his own name, sample-based explorations of Polish heritage as one half of Ptaki and new age infused deep house under the ominous title of The Phantom. Bartosz’s musical creations as Earth Trax, often with long-time friend and collaborator Newborn Jr., have been picked up by such labels as Bradley Zero’s Rhythm Section, Lost Palms, Les Yeux Orange and our very own Phonica main label in recent years.
