OAKE is a German experimental techno project that ventures into the sonic realms of fear and uncertainty. First discovered by Karl “Regis” O’Connor on his Downwards imprint, OAKE has become established as one of the most distinctive products of the genre, pushing an unforgiving style that’s demanding of listeners, devoid of stock value or predictable moralizing, and which seeks to find and create romance in a greyscale world of brutalist architecture and all-pervasive automation.  

OAKE has released on genre-defining labels such as Downwards, Stroboscopic Artefacts, SNTS, 47, and has seen remix duties on imprints like Horo, Noiztank, and Cluster Node. The result has been a sound that arrests the listener’s consciousness with a rigorous balance of ethereal vocal seduction and concussive rhythm, projecting them into a world where the forces of techno-science and magic find themselves in constant reciprocal conversation. 

OAKE’s intense, theatrical live shows have captivated club and festival goers all around the world, alongside DJ sets that range from grooming night-setting openers and all-night ambient vinyl sessions, to intense techno closings led by a fearless sound that brings together all kinds of broken styles – always keeping things high-pace, always full-on, and always producing a particular sense of satisfaction on dancefloors across the world.

Emerging as Phase Fatale in 2014, Berlin-based DJ, producer and label owner, Hayden Payne is rewriting the discourse of Techno with his cross-pollination of gnarly basslines, sensual narratives and mind-control mechanics. Demonstrating his vision through an authentic, highly curated sonic-lens of techno, the New York native’s rhythmic excursions draw on his roots in the underground scenes of his respective cities as well as his reputable experience performing to dancefloors globally. Exemplified by long-standing tenures as a resident for esteemed institutions such as Berlin’s Berghain as well as KHIDI in Georgia's capital Tbilisi, Payne demonstrates a resolute understanding of harnessing club synergy across his productions and DJ sets.

With three full length albums under his belt, including the 2020 sophomore release ‘Scanning Backwards’ on Berghain’s imprint Ostgut Ton, Payne’s sonic signature pushes the boundaries of techno sensibilities and reflects the zeitgeist whilst staying true to his own vision. Wasting no time since his solo project’s inception to showcase his expert sonic ability, Payne has toured throughout Europe performing at renowned clubs and festivals worldwide, releasing numerous records on labels including Jealous God, Ostgut Ton, and his own label BITE.

Payne launched the BITE imprint in 2018 as a means to platform cutting-edge sound production across a diverse roster of international artists. Along with fellow Soft Crash protagonist Pablo Bozzi pioneering ‘Italo Body Music’, BITE’s seminal synthesis of curated techno solidifies the label as a tour de force taste-maker within electronic music with showcases worldwide including Berghain and their 5 year anniversary compilation ‘Shedding Skin’ in 2023.

Hailing from post-punk roots, Payne draws on his depth of musical knowledge and multitude of influences. His merging of nuanced references and high concept narratives remain geared towards the dancefloor at its core, subtleties of his multifarious sonic palette act as the foundations for his layered wall of sound.

One of the most highly respected acts in both techno and industrial circles, Orphx (Rich Oddie and Christina Sealey) have been refining their signature fusion of hypnotic rhythms and experimental noise for many years. They began in the early 90s with a raw sound inspired by old school industrial but soon began incorporating elements of dub, techno and electro into their work. Orphx built up an international following as one of the pioneering acts within the European "rhythmic noise" scene. More recently their work has come to the attention of techno fans through a series of acclaimed releases on the Sonic Groove label, collaborative work with the likes of Ancient Methods and Justin Broadrick, and remixes for many artists including Front Line Assembly, Oscar Mulero, Perc, and Conrad Schnitzler.

Oddie and Sealey have performed around the world at celebrated venues like Berghain and Tresor, and festivals such as Berlin Atonal, Movement, Mutek, and Unsound. They are renowned for their improvised performances, combining software with modular synthesizers and other hardware. Building on a sprawling back catalogue that stretches across industrial, ambient, and techno, their recent output has demonstrated that Orphx are both pioneers and innovators in the fusion of rhythm and noise.

Now an established force in contemporary Techno, Mike Bierbach, better known under his stage name Rødhåd is someone who has seriously put in the work. Having cut his teeth DJing as a relatively unnoted (but well loved by those in the know) local in Berlin for 10 years, one could argue that by the time success knocked on his door, he was more than ready for playing the international stage. It was during these 10 years of obscurity when he refined his craft to become the singular DJ he is now. 

Launching his party-series-turned-label Dystopian in 2009 was what truly tipped the ball over for Rødhåd. In a time where the Berlin scene was heavily oversaturated by fluffy, miscellaneous dance music, he & his peers set out to form a platform for real techno. The reception to this was raucous. 

Although he has lauded productions and remixes to his name, DJing is his true forte. Before abandoning his day job as a draftsman in construction “The Red” (as some call him due to his gingered, bearded appearance) was known for playing very long sets in Berlin’s most notorious hideaways. 

With an album, several EPs & remixes for a multitude of different artists under his belt, Rødhåd the producer has received equal praise as Rødhåd the DJ. Dystopian has hosted most of his releases, but in 2018 he founded a new label WSNWG that serves as a home for collaborative productions, excavated in sessions at his East-Berlin studio with his peers such as Lucy, Alex.Do, & Antigone.

VNNNV is known for his raw and unrelenting beats and deep passion for abstract and hypnotic soundscapes, this DJ pushes the boundaries of hard techno, delivering a sonic experience like no other.

His sets are characterized by thunderous and unyielding kick drums that hit with the force of a sledgehammer. VNNNV is also Behind Hardtechno project named MenaceAnnihilation that takes his audiences on a journey through the darkest corners of electronic music.
