Oh hey, you woke up!


Recently, I discovered a magnificent berry in the mountains behind Taipei. Its fruit grows on a so-called 'nasty vine' - of tremendous beauty yet unwanted. It is unloved due to its highly invasive nature. This overgrowing beauty might be the next 'vine that ate the South,' after the famous Kudzu. The production has a Pulsar23-sublayer lingering between coastlines and traffic noise, something I always wanted to revisit, made in the summer of 2021 with the legendary drum machine I'm especially fond of, thanks to my old friend H369. It also contains emotional glassware from 2018 and a shout-out to the beaches of Saint-Tropez.

Hence, I produced and titled the track "Okinawa Daydream" at the end of April 2019, and now, having finally visited that unique realm of the Pacific, I felt a strong urge to release it. I could write a little essay about it too, but I won't. Lucky you!

"CVN possesses a rare coldness that liquifies itself into something despotic and transient but always engages in rare possibility. The chaos here is a righteous one, made of the shiniest tar. Oozing out is a very occasional spittle of drum and bass with a variety other abstract thematic elements that vary from playful to haunting, intentionally difficult to decipher. Frequent shuddering whispers and hypnotic thrashing bursts break up the icier layers. 

This work is one of speculative fiction. XXIII is inspired by the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games; an event that has yet to take place. This sense of unbridled optimism is juxtaposed by several cloaks of dark speculation. The imagery of XXXII is obscured but when visible there is a campy, flickering, hormonal lamp provided for the listener throughout this sheik and cerebral odyssey of a future cultural engagement." - Alex Hampshire
