At our latest stage hosting for Drift we invited Islas for the closing slot. She blew us away with a floor-oriented set crossing genres on the move.

Islas' roots were in the visual art. As she grew, the curiousness to sound grew with her. Starting with sets bringing together ambient, ASMR and spoken word; currently reviving dance floors with energetic and highly percussive gems. As artistic busy bee, Ailsa co-founded the PLANET collective and helped in founding belgian dance label Basic Moves. As person, a down to earth girl whose determination immediately sparkes interests. @tosh_tosh delivers just what we need in a new Smoke mix. With his radioshow ‘’Sonic Fiction’’ at local Amsterdam radiostation TNP ( @radiotemponaopara) he focus on non-clubby and dubby sounds and after his b2b with @essets at our Smoke room in Multipla during our birthday weekender we only wanted more. 

The mix is a collection of ambient, spoken word and guitar music with some cowboy vibes sprinkled on top. Check it out!

He is currently a regular collaborator at events organized by the Certain Music label. As a producer, he has worked with labels like Ears on Earth and Planka Records. Deena Abdelwahed has a two way relationship with music: in her early years back home in Tunisia when she programmed nights at Nüba, she was known for introducing the likes of footwork, UK bass and kuduro along side experimental house and techno to the local scene. Meanwhile, her own music on labels like InFine has introduced European audiences to bass and techno with plenty of fascinating Arab influences.  This was best showcased on her Khonnar album late last year, which came with plenty of inventive rhythms, weird sound designs and generally challenging musical ideas. 

Abdelwahed’s mix for us comes ahead of her performance at Dekmantel Festival in August and showcases her ability to twist basslines and layer in spiritual ambiance to absorbing effect. It manages to be punchy and physical yet thoughtful throughout, and also comes with plenty of the Arab influences - vocals, instrumentation, rhythms -  that make her work so standout.
