Liquid dNb aka Liquid Funk is a subgenre of drum and bass. While it uses similar basslines and bar layouts to other styles, it contains fewer bar-oriented samples and more instrumental layers (both synthesized and natural), harmonies, melodies and ambiance, producing a sentimental atmosphere. In 2000, Fabio began championing a new form of drum and bass he called "liquid funk", with a compilation release of the same name on his Creative Source label. This was characterized by influences from ambient, funk, disco, house and trance music, and widespread use of vocals. Liquid funk is very similar to intelligent drum and bass and atmospheric drum and bass, but has subtle differences. Liquid funk has stronger influences from soca, Latin, jazz, disco, breakbeat, and funk music, while intelligent D'n'B or atmospheric D'n'B creates a calmer yet more synthetic sound, using smooth synth lines, deep bass and samples in place of the organic element achieved by use of real instruments.

Sequenz is the second single from Neosignal’s debut album ‘Raum und Zeit’ which was released in June '13 and follows ‘Planet Online’, the track and accompanying video that became a viral hit, with coverage from Vimeo (Staff Pick), The Guardian, Buzzfeed, The Sun Online, Vibe, UKF and beyond.

‘Sequenz’ has been a mainstay for Neosignal’s live show, exemplified via performances at Fabric, Urban Art Forms Festival Graz/AU, Dockville Festival Hamburg/DE, BASSart Festival in Munich/DE, Melkweg Amsterdam/NL and beyond, and recently featured in the official PlayStation 4 ‘Best Games Trailer’ at Gamescom. In addition to remixes from Mefjus, Jan Driver and 12th Planet, ‘Sequenz’ is accompanied by another original track, ‘Dernier Cri’.

Shogun Audio has long been home to many of the modern titans of drum & bass; Icicle, Rockwell, Alix Perez... the list goes on. But head honcho, Ed Friction, isn't one to sit back and rest on his laurels - particularly now he's the public face of the genre over on BBC Radio 1 - he's always keeping an ear to the ground, hunting for the next heavyweights.

Hence comes Point Of Origin Vol. 1, a brand new Shogun compilation celebrating the heroes of tomorrow, such as Paul SG, Safire and Posij, and a few of today's top dogs, like Nickbee, Zero-T and DT favourite, Need For Mirrors.

The album offers a varied selection of styles, but sat firmly at the ten-tonne tech end of the spectrum is Karma (who is also the only producer to land two tracks on the release). With a combined history that expands over decades, Calyx & TeeBee’s discography is a journey which explores not only their own output, but the genre’s history. Having remixed commercial heavyweights such as Example, as well as underground tastemaker Tchami whilst blending genres and paying homage to their extensive craft, their experience is rivalled by none.

And yet again they continue their assault and return onto the scene with one of the most sought after tracks since its first play last year. Featuring the dancefloor genre talents of Doctor, who’s recently smashed his way onto the daytime radio airwaves, ‘Where We Go’ is a collaboration set to end the summer in spectacular style. 

An impressively innovative sonic piece of artwork, ‘Where We Go’ signifies another step towards the hugely anticipated ‘1X1’ LP. Crafting Doctor’s party-style vocals on top of an LFO-lead bassline and pounding drum patterns the first drop plummets you down a chasm so intricately constructed there’s no mistaking the duo’s signature production standard. One of the most epitomical moments from this year’s EDC, especially for representing drum & bass, there’s no mistaking the collective sigh of relief that it’s finally about to be unleashed.

Showcasing their impressive versatility, the flipside is just as impressive but a shade darker. ‘Ghost Writer’ utilises an imposing sample which sets up a break before smashing it down with pounding subs between a distorted bassline and elevated percussion. An early morning anthem which takes you in the murkiest corner of every club across the globe, it bares its teeth whilst propelling itself forward in a way which only Calyx & TeeBee can command.
