There’s a line all the way out the door, and I’ve given up counting the heads anymore.
Maybe I’ve not tried enough to stay out of the rough, and I’m finding it tough now to score.
I can count all my friends on one hand, and the few that I have truly don’t understand.      
There’s a price to be paid, sacrifice to be made, then you still have to trade in the plan.
I’m old enough to remember when people acted like they cared.
Giving up seems futile, but I must admit I’m scared.

Instrumental

Explanations abound; no one knows. Pundits try to explain on their t.v. shows.
Answers still lie within, through the thick and the thin,  go back to where it began long ago.
The Supreme Court turned the fatal screw, when they decided corporations are people too.
With a nod and a thank, they ran straight to the bank and started yanking off me and you.
I’m old enough to remember when people acted like they cared.
