The empathy test in Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner is based on the premise that machines, no matter how advanced, lack compassion. But for childhood friends, Isaac Howlett (vocals) and Adam Relf (production), Empathy Test is all about wearing their hearts on their digital sleeves. With driving synth chords, punchy 4/4 beats and euphoric ‘80s melodies, the London-based duo take inspiration as much from modern acts like Chvrches and Purity Ring as they do from Vangelis and Depeche Mode. But far from sounding like just another ‘80s-electro reboot, Empathy Test have cultivated a mesmerizing and immersive identity which sets them apart from pretty much anyone else on the scene.

With an insistence on glorious hooks and instantly memorable vocal lines, Empathy Test are refreshingly unafraid to be pop music. Since self-releasing their debut EP “Losing Touch” in February, Empathy Test have picked up thousands of fans via sheer word-of-mouth and late-night tweets, and collaborated with Richard Swarbrick on numerous viral animation videos for ESPN and Liverpool FC. Empathy Test signed to Brooklyn’s Stars & Letters Records in the spring of 2014, with their follow-up EP “Throwing Stones” releasing December 9th, 2014.

First 2016 release from Disco Modernism, Milan! Fred Ventura new single is a classic Italoconnection production of a song originally written in 1984 and never finished until today. The new arrangements are almost totally inspired by the first demo and only a few ingredients have been added to the final track. To complete the package we asked some of our favourite contemporary producers to rework the song in their unique style. Flemming Dalum go back to the early 80's typical sounds for his rework, Phil R rebuild the song with his personal and melodic touch, Codazzi increase the BPM for another of his pumping remixes. The release is strictly limited to 300 12” vinyls, 150 colored copies plus 150 classic black vinyls. Digital version will be released in February 2016 enjoy it!

23rd December 2017 sees two of Germany’s finest artists, M.in and Gunman, join forces for a special three-track EP on Mar-T’s acclaimed Wow! Recordings, entitled ‘Hands Up’.

Although this is the first time the two talented DJ/producers have released on Wow! Recordings (either individually or as a duo), they have previously linked up for labels including: Tiger Records, New Violence Records, Wasted People, Yellow Tail and most recently, Green Velvet’s Cajual Records.

Kicking off the EP is title-named track, ‘Hands Up’, a six-minute offering that blends trippy, high-pitch vocal snippets with various stuttering drums, steady claps and other Tech-House elements to great effect. Leading on is ‘Xone’, a deep-groover that maintains a steady 4/4 rhythm throughout, as spoken word samples are scattered alongside off-kilter effects and tidy percussive elements.

‘America’ closes the EP, a bass-heavy number that once again sees the German pair utilise chopped and screwed vocal snippets and other obscure pad tones to create a dark, brooding and infectious groove that is made for the clubs in Europe where they regularly perform in.

‘Hands Up’ EP is available exclusively via Beatport on 23rd December and everywhere else two weeks later.
