A rare mix from the originator of Techno, Juan Atkins, as part of the celebration of three decades of Tresor, the German nightclub, label, and institution.

Recorded at the Tresor club in Berlin at the beginning of 2020, before the Covid-19 pandemic turned the world upside-down, the mix spans the full spectrum of sub-genres that Techno has evolved into from its beginnings with Juan and his peers in 1980s Detroit. As such the mix is true testament to the genre from one of its founding fathers.

Juan’s classic track I Love You features on the forthcoming Tresor 30 compilation - 52 tracks of classics and exclusive commissions that map the flight path of Techno from the pioneers to the producers of today and tomorrow. This alongside the recent reissue of the seminal 3MB record Juan made alongside Moritz Von Oswald and Thomas Fehlmann perfectly encapsulates the long-lasting connection between Juan Atkins and Tresor, between Detroit and Berlin.

Rolando Ray Rocha aka Dj Rolando grew up in south west Detroit, a Hispanic district, he was heavily influenced by his cultural Latin rhythms and percussion. Inspired from an early age by his musician father, he pursued his own interest in music and became well known and respected within the community. 

It was later when he heard @axis-jeff-mills in 1985 as "The Wizard" that he discovered the innovative sounds of Techno. Through a mutual friend he was introduced to Mike Banks and joined Underground Resistance in 1994.

In 1999 'Jaguar' although not Rolando's first release on UR turned perceptions of Techno on their head, breaking into other genres of dance music and becoming a classic in the boxes of DJs such as @danny-tenaglia-official, @carl-cox, @pauloakenfold, and @gillespeterson. The track has a long legacy of reworking and lives on fifteen years later inspiring audiences from all genres.

As of November 2004, Rolando left the Underground Resistance project behind, and ten years later (2014) he launched his own label R3 (Roland Rocha Records) and will exclusively release his own music on his label.

Rolando's now a Dj for almost thirty years and continues to work internationally as a Dj and continues to hold a residency at the notorious and enigmatic Berlin club - Berghain. As of today, he will make his debut at the infamous https://soundcloud.com/bassiani club, located in Georgia - Tbilisi, alongside artists such as Anthony Rother, Kancheli, Bassil, Nikala, among others. We wish him success in his gig!

I wanted this mix to express the emotional arc of the last few years, from the hopefulness of the first days of a new year in 2020, to the outbreak of Covid, the loneliness of lockdowns, the hope again with vaccines, the frustration with continuous waves of sickness and death, poor decisionmaking from world leaders, and eventually just the hope that maybe we can hold on to those we love and find some joy in the midst of the madness and anxiety.

Especially on tha way 2 tha gig we were jammin' 2 Dave Clarke on tha radio & he dropped a Juan Atkins track & Juan started 2 sing it right there live in tha back seat of our ride 2 tha gig. BTW, DJ Pierre wuz on tha other side of me, we were on our way 2 an Afro Acid warehouse party ")

Raised in small-town Indiana on a musical diet of 80s synth pop and punk rock, Noncompliant soon found barnyard raves and warehouse techno parties and (as DJ Shiva) quickly became a fixture of the fabled 90s Midwest USA rave scene.

Now, almost three decades and a name change later, she is at the top of her techno game. She was recognized as one of Mixmag's Top 20 Breakthrough DJs in 2017 and has performed at renowned venues like Berghain and Tresor in Berlin, Smartbar in Chicago, and DeSchool in Amsterdam. She has also appeared at festivals such as Unsound and Movement Detroit. 

Noncompliant's releases and remixes on labels like Valence, Flash, Outerworld, and Dark Entries have made waves in the global music scene, with her track "Women's Work" even landing on Fiedel's official Berghain 08 mix and his label Fiedeltwo. In 2023, she is launching her own label called Giant Arm, which features her signature style of raw, uncompromising techno. 

At her core, Noncompliant is a die-hard techno fan with a deep love for music and a drive to continue honing her craft as a DJ and producer to share her favorite music with people on dance floors around the world.
