For our next trip Down The Stairs, we head down south to Birmingham and are supremely delighted to welcome Jayson Wynters (@jwynters) into the DTS fold.

Kicking off his musical endeavours as a garage MC around Birmingham in the late 90's, Jayson's tastes evolved over the years and he found support in the form of the legendary Mr G, who took on Jayson as part of the Phoenix G family with his 2016 EP, 'Unfamiliar Territories.' It was this, and 2 further releases on Don't Be Afraid (@dontbeafraid), that brought Jay to our attention here at 2Sox HQ. From then on, we have thoroughly enjoyed all his output; from other tracks to a plethora of flawless mixes.

We were chuffed when Jayson accepted the offer of heading DTS and even more chuffed when he delivered this quite perfect hour of deepness.

A live show for No Way Back Streaming From Beyond 2021 from experimental synth artist Raica. Chloe Harris is a renowned DJ & producer based in Seattle. As a true stalwart of the Pacific Northwest scene, she is the head of Further Records, both a store and a label (that has released artists as diverse as Hieroglyphic Being and Donato Dozzy). Here we find her exploring the beauty and caverns of her inner mind in her studio for the Outer Space Room live block of the NWB 2021 stream, a section that included Suzanne Ciani, Fronte Violeta, Adam Arthur and Organic Dial.

This Friday’s mix celebrates some of the earlier work of Cleveland techno legend Dan Curtin. Herein you shall find a glorious selection of melodic, acidic electronica and tech house, rich with his complex, layered sound. I discovered Dan’s 1994 masterpiece The Silicon Dawn in the late 90s, and although I loved it dearly from the off, never really dug into his wonderfully diverse back catalogue to the extent that his talent warrants. Well, that’s all changed now :)

The tracklist on this mix is shorter than usual and with good reason. These tunes really deserve a chance to breathe, jam-packed as they are with ideas - you get three tracks’ worth of melodies, acidic riffs and bleeps in one. In a few cases it was hard to cut a tune even after 5 minutes, knowing yet another earworm was just around the corner. 

I hope you enjoy this mix as much as I did compiling and making it - if you do, and weren’t overly familiar with Dan Curtin before, I strongly recommend picking up The Silicon Dawn for starters, it’s an absolute classic.
