To say Adriatique have been on a prolific run of form over the past few years would be somewhat of an understatement. Laying claim to an abundance of internationally celebrated releases on some of the biggest labels in electronic music, the boundary-pushing Swiss producers have managed to carve out their own innovative sonic path since emerging onto the scene back in 2009, and have made a name for themselves as one of the most exciting, in-demand acts in dance music today.

Boasting an impressive catalogue of spellbinding releases on the likes of Diynamic, Afterlife, Wolf & Lamb, Watergate and their very own Siamese Recordings, the coveted Swiss duo now make their eagerly anticipated debut on German imprint Embassy One, as they lay down a grandiose interpretation of WhoMadeWho’s critically acclaimed album single Silence & Secrets.

Road tested to rapturous reception over the past few months at the likes of Timewarp (NYC), Printworks (London), The Loft (Amsterdam), DC10 (Ibiza) and on home turf at the legendary Nordstern (Basel), Adriatique’s masterful rework acts as a fascinating microcosm to their highly acclaimed DJ sets. Long, meditative and relentlessly building affairs, the duo consistently challenge with their resplendent sound experiment, teasing the recipient with subtle twists and hypnotic grooves at every turn.

Out now, the epic seven-minute cut sees production partners Adrian Shala and Adrian Schweizer breathe a pulsating energy into the haunting original, imparting an impressive tapestry of analog instrumentation, driving bass and dynamic production techniques to the third album single of WhoMadeWho’s eagerly awaited seventh long player. Toying with melody, texture and tonality across the entirety of the remix, Adriatiques’s work honours the raw emotional quality for which the duo have become famed, cultivating a euphoric sonic palate that captivates from the off. Cavernous atmospheres and swelling tones meet majestic synth leads and drawn out breakdowns, bringing this standout piece of vocal dance music into a new and truly imaginative light.

Speaking about the remix, Adriatique commented:

We have been exploring opportunities to collaborate with WhoMadeWho since quite some time. This fall, while they were finishing their upcoming album and we were working on remixes, we exchanged some thoughts and Tomas Barfod asked if we would be up to remix their next single 'Silence & Secrets'. The timing could not have been better, as we were just working in the studio and gave it a listen. Three days later we had a draft ready and were able to test it for the first time during ADE. In general we're rather easy-going when it comes to deadlines and the swift outcome with this remix is a testimony for how much fun we had. We are happy to finally have worked together, hopefully not for the last time!" – Adriatique

In the years since their inception WhoMadeWho have established themselves as one of the definitive underground bands of their generation, renowned for their exceptional grasp of emotional depth, heartrending melody and inspired song writing. The group, comprised of Tomas Høffding, Tomas Barfod and Jeppe Kjellberg, inject consummate professionalism into standout performances all over the globe, from Roskilde to Sonar, Melt! to Burning Man and have produced seven albums and a plethora of EPs, singles and remixes on labels like Kompakt, Innervisions, Life & Death. With Barfod’s penchant for electronic music poetically juxtaposed with Høffding and Kjellberg’s respective backgrounds in rock and jazz, their music is an electrifying combination of sounds, merging a variety of influences to produce a unique sonic fingerprint that is emotive, irresistible and immensely satisfying.

Opening the EP is title track Upperground, an ethereal upbeat House tune which has been an essential component of the sets of Solomun in the past weeks. Atlas showcases their ability to step over to the dark side with a fist-pumping melodic Techno thumper.Closing off the record is Dont Bring Me Down, which was written by Dino Lenny and enhanced by ARTBATs brush into an emotional dancefloor hymn. The pairing of its string arrangements and the touching vocals of Dino Lenny will surely make for memories that last past the night out in which you hear it.
