Toyacoyah is an indigenous DJ that draws inspiration from both ancestral rhythms and modern-day breakbeats, bringing a unique fusion of influences to her DJ sets. This avid record collector began her DJ journey in the late 90s curating beats for a drum n’ bass radio show at the University of Oklahoma. Following graduation, she ventured to Austin,Texas, where she continued pushing the drum n’ bass sound at raves + clubs across
Texas, Colorado, California, and even internationally in Brazil.
During her time in Austin, she was one of the original resident DJs for Mental Note, a night dedicated to liquid funk + jazzy drum n’ bass at Plush nightclub. 
Now residing in Chicago, she’s embarked on a new chapter in her musical journey sharing her passion for the faster tempos she loves with audiences across the Midwest. Her high-bpm selections have given her the opportunity to play alongside some of her favorite producers including Addison Groove, Andy C, Drumagick, Fabio, LTJ Bukem, Random Movement, Roni Size, and Sam Binga. Expect to hear the full spectrum of bass sounds in her sets, as she works her way through electro, breaks, juke, jungle,footwork and more.

Vief’s next fundraiser compilation is raising money for Palestine Solidarity Campaign to aid their work in building public support for an end to the atrocities currently taking place in Gaza. For the release, melba delivers a 160 celestial jungle track with 'heaven'. With a drawn out-arrangement accompanied with chopped up Amens and a low-riding Reese bass. Beautiful sonics collide with a dark and mysterious undertone to create an atmospheric piece, which is worth listening to from start-to-finish. Local Action is very proud to present Rushing 1621, the first EP from a transatlantic meeting of minds and styles from two of our favourite artists: Om Unit and James Bangura. 

Based in Bristol, Om Unit is a titan of UK soundsystem music, pulling footwork, hip-hop, jungle, bass, techno, breaks and more into wild new shapes across an illustrious 15-year plus career.

DC’s James Bangura meanwhile has emerged as one of the most exciting artists on America’s east coast, releasing solo heat on labels like Incienso and !K7 and regularly touring the world as part of the Black Rave Culture collective, drawing from regional club styles across the States. 

The EP’s title Rushing 1621 is a reference to both artists’ area codes, so UK-meets-US synergy is the name of the game here (and if you know Local Action, you probably already know that this sort of thing is our catnip). Garage, house, breaks and even moments that recall early ‘00s proto-dubstep and dub-techno are all present, but really, it’s both artists’ immaculate drums and flawless production that drives this thing. Some records just feel unimpeachable, and this is one.
