The second act from a Music, Sound and Technology Major Project exploring a plunderphonics-style form of narrative composition that uses a library of self-composed musical fragments as raw materials. Using these varied instrumental fragments, a musical narrative was created. This was bolstered by the addition of vocal parts that tell a non-linear story inspired by the unsolved mystery of the arson of Brighton’s abandoned West Pier.

Act Two: A Fatal Storm by Luke Mathews

Maggie (2021) is the second piece in a three-part compositional series exploring the musicality of mundane objects. This piece challenges the listener to change their perception; to find the extraordinary in the everyday. This piece investigates how the human voice can be explored as both a mundane an extraordinary object, through the use of natural and artificial voices. Maggie (2021) features an extract from Maggie Nelson's memoir The Argonauts (2015), which discusses the notion of 'feeling real', and how this sensation contributes to our overall sense of aliveness.
