DJ Neet & Gordon Brown Jr strikes back with their second release 'Breaking Dub', a follow-up to their debut album 'Research Program #1', heavily inspired by deep roots and reggae, released in 2017. What makes this release special is the cover version of the classic Kyodai track 'Breaking', released on Local Talk back in 2012. Wait a minute - A dub version of 'Breaking' you say?.

Yes, you have to hear it to believe it !

While the original is built around heavy live drums, hands in the air piano chords and packs a lot of energy, this version slow things down and creates an hypnotic vibe.

Widely known for his deeply spiritual and afro-leaning sound, the Brooklyn, NYC-based producer and DJ has remained a dominant force within the deep house sphere for over twenty years, and during this time has released work on a string of reputable labels, including Neroli, Deepblak, Shelter and Ron Trent’s Future Vision imprint, to name but a few.

Now surfacing on Bristol’s Phuture Shock for his latest 12”, Trini combines signature themes of Yoruba mythology, soundsystem culture and his native Caribbean roots, with hints of dub, soca and afro styles across three spellbinding house jams that form the ‘Dub Rockas’ EP. As you can expect from Trinidadian Deep, this is the highest order in hypnotic, tribal rhythms and lush, ocean-deep sonics that will touch the innermost depths of your mind, body and soul.

This summer sees the very timely arrival of a brand new record label from the Wah Wah 45s family. Allison Recordings further explores the world of electronic music, showcasing up-and-coming producers and music makers, as well as artists that have been on the Wah Wah radar for a number of years. Allison leans towards the dance floor of course, but isn’t your average club music record label.. Whilst this imprint was set up to represent a more electronic output, the soulful DNA of Wah Wah 45s still shines through.

The debut compilation, Sun After Rain, can hopefully provide something of a soundtrack to more optimistic times. The ten artists, providing eleven tracks in all, come together from across the UK from London to Liverpool via Birmingham, Brighton and beyond - from Bangkok to Berlin and Cologne to Amsterdam.

From Brighton to Berlin, and a name that might be familiar to fans of Wah Wah 45s. Having provided a stunning remix for Cinematic Orchestra bass player Hunrosa, and contributed a club friendly re-edit 12” to the label’s Dubplate series, Lavan was one of the first names on the Allison Recordings list. And so naturally, Out 4 Da Gusto, his optimistic and foot friendly contribution to the compilation, was also the first single to be taken from it. We look forward to more sonic joy from this rising star in the coming months too.

PREMIERE: Lavan - Out 4 Da Gusto [Allison Recordings]

Here’s something that will get your senses tingling: a 4-track release by Colombia’s number one house prodigy: Felipe Gordon. His ‘Highly conductive rhythms’ EP has the talented producer showcasing the depths of his sound with classy compositions ranging from jazzy deep house to funky acid. Felipe is someone who you might call a prolific producer: he’s had 6 releases last year on labels like Shall not Fade, Local Talk, Lost Palms and Toy Tonics and this year he’s already dropped a handful of releases including his spectacular album “A landscape onomatopeya”. Despite this crazy release schedule, Felipe has made sure to deliver a stunning record for Heist, something he’s been dreaming of ever since he started making music. The lush opener ‘Highly smooth tone’ features the jazzy work of Cuban horn player Julio Rigal, who delivers a sublime performance with his crackling trumpet work reminiscent of St. Germain’s 2001 album ‘Tourist’. There’s a deep bass and fine synth work to give the track some weight, which balances out perfectly with the chopped keys and loose drums. ‘Highly deep and conductive’ takes things even deeper. It’s warm pads and crunchy sub bass support a snare loop that feels like a marching band on its way to the nearest club. The subtle vocal chops (You’re gonna miss my love) are on point in defining the melancholic character of the track. The mid-track arpeggio and bumpy synth hits make for a perfect changeover in a track that breathes deep house to the fullest. On the flip, Felipe delivers the acid drum workout ‘Highly corrosive acid’. This might seem like unfamiliar territory for the producer, if it wouldn’t have been so expertly crafted. We can almost feel the sweat dripping off the walls of the clubs this will be played in. If this is acid Felipe Gordon style, please give us more. The final track of the EP is ‘Highly rhythmic pace’: a classic bumpy deep house track with chopped keys, bells, chants and a fair amount of grunt in the bass. This is a groovy finish to a well-crafted and amazingly varied EP. We’re glad Felipe got to release on Heist and this might well be the start of something great.

The Dutch house aficionado Frits Wentink has been a busy man this year, touring three continents and releasing a couple of saucy EPs along the way. His partnership with lo-fi don DJ Boring resulted in a wonky breaks-influenced (and cheekily-named) ‘Wasted Years of Pumping Iron‘ EP, released on his own Bobby Donny imprint in May.

Frits started the year with a second edition of his three volume series 'Two Bar House Music & Chord Stuff' with the first one being released back in the summer of 2017. Drawing inspiration from luminaries such as Kerri Chandler, each EP contains four themes, showcasing the versatility of Frits, as he blends a number of surprising elements, adding his signature lofi-ish touch.

Today we take a look at the third and final LP in the series, coming out on WOLF Music, as were the previous two. The label, residing in the serene British seaside, has been operating for almost a decade, boasting an impressive catalogue with the likes of Medlar, Bicep, Waze & Odyssey, Session Victim and Francis Inferno Orchestra being just a few of the well-known and respected names.
