As the sun rises on another Sunday morning, so too does it rise on another Sundays are for… The journey into ambient, downtempo, and beyond has been a welcome challenge, emotional release, and many other things over the last 3 years. To see others appreciating the musical story as it unfolds is one of the best feelings in the world. Today marks the start of the 4th musical chapter, who knows where we will go from here, but the one constant will always be the best music one can offer.

- We carry eden

"I close my eyes inside a dark hangar. I wake up naked in the heart of a Greek island garden. I can hear a bee sucking nectar from the most spectacular flower I have ever seen. I get up and walk. I crash into a ramification of 4 rivers that connect in a sound spiral that hypnotizes. I sit the hours that become seconds. Meditation. The river feeds the trees on the bank. The smell of fruit salad is intoxicating. We carry eden. I open my eyes and continue into the hangar. It's over."

Hanyo van Oosterom (@sonofchi) aka Son of Chi started the ambient collective CHI in 1983. Jacobus Derwort, a musician friend with Hanyo was the first musician to join CHI. Together, they went to the magic rock “The Kallikatsou” on the island of Patmos, Greece. Here, Hanyo had stayed for months in a cave for some deep soul-searching. He heard CHI in the silence of the night like a message from out of space. Being together at the Kallikatsou they shaped the foundation of CHI, making handmade flutes from local bamboo and conducting field recordings of water, crickets, owls, goats, wind, etc. After several years of collaborations with musicians like Willem Cramer and Michel Banabila, they decided to start together the beautiful The Chi Factory with which released (with the help of Ario Farahani and his label Astral Industries - @astralindustries) some of the most beautiful records in the history of ambient music. Following the passing of group member J. Derwort in 2019, Hanyo van Oosterom’s legacy work brings about the next evolution of the Chi project: Son of Chi. The sound of Hanyo Oosterom unfurls lushly overgrown 4th world drones, voices, and field recordings, naturally drifting between time-slowing beats, FM radio interference, and languid instrumentation combining the western retro-futuristic point of view, the New Age, and the ancestral eastern tradition.

Mostra (@mostrabcn) is an independent small-format festival of avant-garde and experimental electronic music that was born as an alternative to the macro-festivals and mass, commercial events that are held in the city of Barcelona. Mostra 2023 will take place from 6 to 9 April in Barcelona, featuring a total of 30 artists across two distinctive venues of the city.

This Sunday marks one of the last few remaining in the year of 2022. Chock full of ups and downs, it certainly wasn’t a boring one. Through it all there was an incredible amount of music released, only a sliver of which was documented through the prior months but oh, so many good memories looking back.
