q. pls introduce yourself

Hi everyone, I’m Raimundo from Santiago, Chile. I dj under the moniker pendrai and I also started recently working as a lawyer. Big fan of cooking and going to camp with my dearest.

q. is there a story behind the mix?

I’ve been picking these tracks for almost 2 years when the pandemic started. One eve I decided dust off my favourites and record my first ever ambient mix. 

q. what's the best way to enjoy your mix?

The original archive was named ‘By the sea’ so I guess it works that way for me. It has a lot of references to aquatic scenarios. 

q. describe a favourite object in your living room...

I really like the dry flowers that I have in a cute vase in the middle of the room. I acquired them in the countryside on the road to the beach. Also a big shoutout to my dj equipment. 

q. are you working on any projects right now (music or not music)?

I have been running Fake Rolex, a podcast series, with my friends Sebastian and Matías for about 4 years. Hope we keep the enthusiasm and releasing mixes from incredible artist.

sometimes it's hard to find enough distance from things you've recorded to be able to appreciate them
but this is so long ago that it feels unrecognizable
somehow connected to so much of what i love now but there's still a disconnection from the person who recorded it
wild trip into the past, trying to shazam some of this back into my memory !

q. pls introduce yourself:

I’m James Gilbert, I make music under the name Petteril. It’s emotive, textural, electroacoustic music inspired by the complexities of the human condition, nature and the parallels between the two. A dying accordion, baritone guitar, clarinet, field recordings, electronics. I improvise, manipulate and process sound to craft narrative driven musical collages.

q. is there a story behind the mix? how did it come together?

Every so often I feel compelled to make a mix. I don’t consider myself a DJ (at all!) but it harks back to the days of making mix tapes etc in college. Theres something calming and relaxing about it. There’s no real theme behind most of them, it’s just a way of collating and reorganising some of the music that I’ve been listening to recently. I enjoy doing it just for myself. Re-contextualising tracks by juxtaposing them with others that make sense. So this is just like a mixtape of bits I was listening to lots at the time of creating. Hopefully it helps people relax and go about their day.

q. in your opinion, what would be the ideal circumstances to enjoy your mix?

One or multiple of the following: On a walk. Sat in a forest. On a beach. In the rain. Somewhere windy with sound cancelling headphones. In nature. Watching insects. Drinking a coffee early in the morning. Laying in bed late at night, in the dark. Extremes of day. Very early or very late.

q. describe a favorite object in your living room...

Might sound a bit boring, but the table. We have a 12ftx3ft table that I made years ago when we were renovating our house. It’s just a thin profile box metal frame, powder coated black with a heavy plywood top. But it’s the heart of everything in our house. It’s where I set up musical gear from time to time, it’s where I often work, it’s where my wife sews (she makes all her own clothes), it’s where my kids colour or do craft or playdoh and it’s where we eat as a family.

q. are you working on any projects right now (music or not music)?

Quite a lot. I have two finished releases in the pipeline, one of which is my debut album which has just been mastered and is currently being pressed to vinyl. It will be released late in year(ish) on a label I’m super excited about (can’t say too much yet!). And another project which is perhaps a little more experimental both musically and conceptually which I’m just finalising mixes and premasters for, ready to be sent off to get mastered and released on another of my favourite labels (again, can’t say too much at this point). They’ll probably both be coming out towards the end of the year. I’m also working on a long form piece which will be a bit more of a long term project. Trying to practice clarinet, guitar where I can too.
