Urban Symphonies is an experimental project that melts down the raw & concrete structures of electronic bass productions and that echoes deep into the haunted walls of a timber-boxed violin and its set of resonant strings. It is simply the melting point of an encounter between two complete strangers (one from Krosno & other from Beirut), bumping into each other, on one of Istanbul's narrow streets, and finding a common artistic interest. Justyna Niznik and Hadi Dazza collaborate together to present to you Urban Symphonies 001: An improvised live session, recorded back in April 2023, that jams between a Violin's compilation of sonorous & eerie lilting melodies, intricately blended into a mix of bass-infused Grime & Dubstep selections, delivered at a speed of 140 BPM!

Born in 1981 in Krosno (Poland), Justyna entered a musical development program at the age of 7 and has since won numerous competition prizes and awards, including a scholarship from the Polish Prime Minister. She began her violin studies in 2000 at the "Akademia Muzyczna im. Karola Lipinskiego" in Wroclaw (Breslau) with Prof. B. Bryla. Since 2003, she has studied in Weimar at the "Franz Liszt" Academy of Music, where she graduated in 2006. After that she started her postgraduate studies in the class of Prof. Friedemann Eichhorn, graduating in 2007. In the chamber music class of Prof. Ulrich Beetz, she became interested in historical performance practice, so she studied at the "Hochschule für Musik Köln" in the baroque violin class of Prof. Richard Gwilt, graduating with a Master's degree in 2010. She participated in master classes with Midori Seiler, Stefan Mai, Anton Steck, Enrico Onofri, Elisabeth Wallfish, and Jaap ter Linder, among others. In 2011 she was on numerous European tours with the "European Union Baroque Orchestra" (EUBO), and in 2016–2018, she was concertmaster of the Cologne Baroque Orchestra. After her career as a concertmaster with various orchestras, she devoted herself to research on the connection between sound and movement, which led her to inter- and trans-disciplinary work with dancers, performers, and visual artists. Justyna developed a strong affinity for electronic music, using loopers and other electronic instruments to create new soundscapes. As a sought-after soloist and improviser in cross-over projects, she has performed a wide range of collaborations and projects with renowned artists. Her recent works include "New Ocean Sea Cycle" at Kolumba Museum with Richard Siegal / Ballet of Difference at Schauspiel Köln.
Latest Activities: (Aug 2021), "Under Construction Festival" / Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch (May 2022), "Traditional Unconventional" (Oct 2022), and the performance "Senga Nengudi" with Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch at the Van der Heydt Museum (Aug 2022–Feb 2023). One of her most recent performances, "The Physicality of Sound," which took place at the symposium "Relay" at ZZT Cologne in April 2023, emphasized the physical presence of sound and explored its connection with physical movement.

A music head hailing from the gritty streets of Beirut, Dazza has always kept seeking reason through music and its various experimental sounds. One sound in particular is UK underground sound, varying from triton and mucky basslines to deep and resonant sub-low frequencies. Currently, Dazza hosts THE OH961 SHOW monthly every last Sunday on Root Radio (rootradio.live) and recently launched an events series in Istanbul under the name of OH961 (@oh961crew), where you can catch him alongside some local & foreign artists, showcasing exclusive 140 bpm material, taking you on an excursion between the highest highs of Grime and the deepest pits of Dubstep!

The EP closes on an experimental tip with 'Shrink Ray''s slinky synths and hypnotic textures.
