This week's Far Blue concept is crafted by the four friends of the UK-based collective and record label, Simpler Times. This one has been long in the making, and the final result is a truly special mix.

‘Reflections Of Things To Come’ is a carefully crafted hour long journey that showcases Simpler Times take on the Far Blue concept. It is inspired by the idea of reflecting on the past while dreaming of the future.

‘We wanted to do something special for this mix, so we decided to record a set made up of unreleased Simpler Times music. We’ve included some older unreleased stuff that has never seen the light of day before alongside some brand new music we produced especially for the mix. We wanted to combine the old with the new to mirror the concept of the mix.’

Anemoia is a contemporary album that draws inspiration from the golden age of funk, jazz, soul, and disco in the 1970s, reimagining these classic sounds through a modern lens. The project's name refers to the Greek concept of nostalgia for an era one has never experienced, reflecting the creator's deep connection to and reverence for this pivotal period in music history.

Featuring ten diverse artists, the album weaves together various musical styles while maintaining the warmth and spontaneity of a live performance. From the jazz-funk opener "Neon Gods" to the cinematic closer "Nino," the record spans multiple genres, incorporating elements of soul, hip-hop, and disco music to create a fresh, cohesive sonic experience that bridges past and present.

There can't be many acts with as wide an appeal as Sheffield producer and artist Yarni. The late, great Andrew Weatherall was fond of dropping his tunes, Gilles Peterson and Luke Una are fans, and radio types Craig Charles and Huey Morgan are often known to slide one into their 6Music schedules.

He's just announced what he's calling his most ambitious project to date, "Anemoia," an album exploring the Greek concept of nostalgia for a time never known, collaborating with ten musicians and vocalists across ten tracks that weave disco, soul, jazz-funk, hip-hop and trip-hop into a thoroughly modern tapestry. "This isn't about recreating the past, but channeling its spirit into something new," he says.

It's set for an October release on Stanhope Records, with a string of teaser singles to keep an eye out for in the meantime. But us being the impatient types that we are, we persuaded him to take to the decks for a mix session right here, right now...
