Ambient Music by Skyful of Dreams

In "The Walkabout" I imagined what a soundscape for a traditional Australian Aboriginal's long walking journey through the wilderness, in both a physical sense and a spiritual one, might sound like. I created a nocturnal ambience for the opening with the sounds of crickets and my didgeridoo and from there the piece awakens to a musically rich journey, exploring textures that are more like landscapes. Soon little melodic phrases guide the listener to an eventual unfolding into a beautiful moment of arrival in the joining of acoustic guitar, indigenous flute, and didgeridoo.

Award-winning artist Michelle Qureshi is a composer, multi‐instrumentalist, and classically-trained guitarist who brings a contemporary yet timeless aesthetic to her music. She released her first of fifteen albums and nine singles in 2012. Her music is heard worldwide, with millions of streams on global platforms. Combining her formal training with intuitive and improvisational elements, she performs both as a solo guitarist and a presenter of sound experiences. Just in time for the onset of winter, Dan Thorman’s mix is here to keep us cosy. A soft blanket of healing sounds in muted tones and gentle textures, Dan’s mix is a beautiful story which provides a quiet comfort: an insulated cocoon of warmth to retreat into.

Dan is someone who gives some of the best hugs going, and always smells amazing too. He’s a kind and sensitive soul, with an easy laugh and excellent taste in music. He has a real gift for making everyone around him feel brighter and happier, and his mix is no exception. A perfect soundtrack for curling up on the sofa with a steaming cup of tea, and a good book 🕯️🧡

The mix builds up from subtle drifting mists, into glistening tones and resonant chords. Evolving at an unhurried pace, and in a delicate manner, as one track morphs into the next, washes of sound dissipate into the fuzzy notes of an organ, or the muted hoots of an owl 🦉🍃

Rich in acoustic instrumentation and sounds from the natural world, it brings to mind looking through a fogged window at trees being buffeted by strong winds, or the last light of sunset seeping away behind a hill. The mix draws to a close with a cerebral drone, slowly waking us from a mesmerised trance, and leaving us feeling both rejuvenated and restful. I hope you enjoy this listen as much as I have, thank you Dan for this lovely entry 🌄🤍
