ITZSOWEEZEE Spotlight Series highlights the incredibly talented DJs and producers that make up the ITZSOWEEZEE ranks, as well as our extended music family. Each month, we deliver a fresh mix that reflects the diverse style and flavour of our crew. This is an opportunity to “meet” our selectors, enjoy some amazing free music, and understand why we command the respect that we do.

Ever since we began the Spotlight Series, it’s been a blessing to bring you all mixes from some of the most talented DJs and producers from across the globe. The thirty-fifth release in the series is no different, as we present a polished 40-minute product from Vancouver production duo, @WeAreLiveEvil. Live Evil, formerly known as The Freshest Live Set, consists of our incredible homies DJ Marvel and Kutcorners, who joined forces in 2011 to put the West Coast music scene in a stranglehold. While both Marvel and Kutcorners have racked up a number of individual accolades, their collaborative efforts have earned them recognition from well-established outlets such as BBC Radio 1, Shade 45, Pitchfork, Hypetrak, Okayplayer, and many more. With strong international nightclub experience under their belts, the duo have grabbed the game by its horns with their live remixing abilities, combining turntablism with synths and drum pads to deliver unique performances that drive party-goers insane. These skills are showcased in full force on their contribution to our Spotlight Series, taking the listener on a guided tour through the darker side of hiphop. This mix is what happens when two of the illest in the country decide to put on some Timbs and proceed to stomp out any DJ standing in their way.

EMVEE - Chico area DJ with 7 years behind the decks - Currently a Resident DJ at Lasalles Bar, Chico, Ca with expanding opportunities in surrounding areas. Genres played include anything from the lastest Hip Hop bangers to Trap - EDM or Top 40.

ITZSOWEEZEE is a Toronto-based Media & Entertainment group catering to lovers of floor-filling hip hop, house & electronic dance music.

A veteran in the Vancouver hip-hop scene, D-Rec has been holding it down for well over a decade, with a stacked resume of club nights, live show and studio album production and scratch credits. If you're fortunate to catch him on the decks, you will soon hear that he is heavily influenced by early to late 90's hip-hop, but he is extremely versatile and can flex with any genre. You can always expect him to drop all the classics you know and love, the obscure gems, classic rock, funk, soul, rnb, 80's hits, new stuff...anything goes. And as far as his beats go, he keeps it simple with cleverly arranged and selected samples and hard-hitting boom bap inspired drums. 

As the official DJ for world renown Vancouver artist Snak the Ripper, the Stompdown Killaz crew and Stealth Bomb Records (Snak, Junk, Jaclyn Gee, Brevner, Edgar Penwork), D-Rec has toured extensively at an international level,  including multiple cross Canada tours and a 7 country European tour.  He has shared the stage with legendary astists such as Raekwon, Havoc (Mobb Deep), The Beatnuts, Tech Nine, Planet Asia, Camp Lo, Ill Bill, Sean Price, GM Roc Raida, RA the Rugged Man, Prince Paul, Kool DJ Red Alert, GZA, The Alkaholiks, Little Brother, Pharoahe Monch, MOP, The Coup, Swollen Members, Sweatshop Union, 2 Chainz, Jedi Mind Tricks, Diamond D, Onyx, Digable Planets, Zion I, Hopsin, Blackalicious and many more. 

His production and scratch credits include work with Snak the Ripper, Junk, Edgar Penwork, Jaclyn Gee, Evil Ebenezer, HellnBack, Timbo King, RA the Rugged Man, Sadat X, El Da Sensei, Mac Lethal, Swollen Members, Sweatshop Union, Emotionz, Alpha Omega, Robbie G, Kai Skywalker, Fatt Matt, Lesk One, Jeff Spec, Narai, Tonye Aganaba, Stevie Ross and Matt Brevner to name a few. 

Throw in a residency at Vancouver's longest running hip-hop night, "Monday Night live", multiple DJ & beat battle victories, respect and admiration from fans and heads worldwide, and you have someone truly dedicated to their craft. Even with such an extensive resume, he feels like he's just getting started. Be on the lookout for lots more from D-Rec in the years to come.

The Halfrican started off DJing Drum and Bass as Mowgli in the mid 90s. After several years of playing in Ottawa’s club and rave scene, he started to move towards playing the wider break beat spectrum and incorporating a heavy turntablism influence into his sets. Aside from dropping science on the tables, he was also writing and promoting music for Giant Step distribution online. By 2003, he was a regular fixture at the Culture clubnight in Ottawa, playing a party-rocking blend spanning from hip hop to funk to broken beat to electro and lots in between. After a hiatus on the west coast, The Halfrican is back in his party-rocking ways cutting, flipping and juggling the scene on it’s head.
