So, it's my next album single, and this time it's a bit crunching. There is a reason for this abomination lacking softness or melody though - the album is called "Human", and it's my attempt to translate some common themes about the human condition, into musical form. And of course not everything about being human is beautiful or pleasant - we experience all sorts of things, and this one is about the impacts of life, in the form of pounding mechanical collisions. It's a club track really, and if you've seen me in recent months you've probably had your face smashed by it a little - sorry about that!

An album that sets out to examine sonic extremes, Max Cooper's debut Human juxtaposes a whole range of electronic styles:  lush orchestration fighting savage distortion, and clinical digital sound anchored by warm analogue grooves.  And nowhere is that restless curiosity to experiment as apparent as the contrast of the first and second singles - first, the delicate and downtempo Adrift, versus this second release, Impacts, the roughest, toughest sampler workout Cooper has produced.
On the album, they're sequenced in a focused line to be the centre of the album's first act and then its midpoint, before the album's more experimental final act.  But as a single on its own?  Impacts is a stop-start stomper that has had festival crowds asking WTF!?!? for months now, and the album's only purely dancefloor moment - as far from voguish k-house sounds as it is.  

But despite the harsh uncompromising sonic contrast - and this is a track that grunts into focus like a sledgehammer picking a fight with a gang of hi-hats - Impacts is, to Cooper's mind, actually something very optimistic.  It's the sound of a person beaten again and again by life, but each time bouncing back and wanting more.

For the remixes, Cooper has gone for two artists with their own take on high-contrast sonics.  Gabe Gurnsey of Factory Floor has folded his band's hypnotic acid tweaking into the original's rasping beats, and Perc has gone balls out with an take-it-or-leave it experimental sub-lead mix for the serious heads and big systems.

604 - iVardensphere

Four voices of e370, all of them doing 4 voice Morphing Clouds using User Waves ABCD, loaded with the Chebychev functions I made last week. Voice 1&2 are panned left/right, playing different pitches, with VCA envelope but no filter. Voice 3&4 are panned left/right, playing the same notes (the bass) through a pair of e440 filters. They start out with narrow spread, then the spread widens and modulates. A slight echo is applied to everything. 

The intention here, in part, is to test how specially made User waves, similar but different banks like the Cheby banks I made with intention for Z-Mod continuity, can be panned L/R for a rich stereo effect.

Take tribal drums, mix with pounding analogue synths and a killer club sound and what do you get? Welcome to iVardensphere. 

The new album, APOK, finds iVardensphere exploring different aspects of their sound, from dance floor stomping powernoise to more exotic flavors of tribal drumming blended with elements of trip-hop and a club-pleasing analog synth bumping EBM sound. APOK, iVardensphere's first release on Metropolis Records, also takes iVardensphere's passion for collaborations to a whole new level, bringing in guest artists including I:Scintilla, Caustic, God Module, and This Morn' Omina as well as featuring remixes by SKOLD, ESA, releveleR and Pull Out Kings.

The story of iVardensphere's rise begins a few years ago in Edmonton, Canada, where Scott Fox DJs the notorious club nights SICK and Das OOntz. Fox took his expertise in filling the dance floor and applied it to his passion for synths and industrial dance music to create a fresh take on the genre to form iVardensphere. Upon being heard for the first time by Vancouver-based label Synthetic Sounds, iVardensphere was immediately signed and the debut album Scatterface was released in July 2009, mastered by Sebastian Komor [Icon of Coil]. 

Soon after the completion of Scatterface, Scott enlisted the talents of Chris Lacroix [aka Siborg from Virtual Terrorist] to help bring the project from the studio to the stage, where the band shines. Ever since, iVardensphere has been constantly active live, having performed with acts ranging from Apoptygma Berzerk to Iszoloscope to 16Volt and Chemlab to Front Line Assembly at such places as Das Bunker in LA and the Kinetik Festival in Montreal. Buoyed by touring and word of mouth from an ever-growing fan base, iVardensphere has steadily swept across the industrial dance club scene in North America.

At the end of 2009, Scatterface made its way across the Atlantic on one of Europe’s leading darkrock and industrial labels, Danse Macabre Records, as Fox prepared iVardensphere's second release, Remixes Vol. 1, featuring remixes from Komor Kommando, Memmaker, Left Spine Down and others. Initially a digital-only release, fans demand CDs, and so Remixes vol. 1 came out in February 2010 on Synthetic Sounds. This release also marked iVardensphere's first introduction to the college radio charts across Canada. 

The summer of 2010 saw the band hit a wide range of cities and venues all across the USA and Canada with Iszoloscope and ad*ver*sary, gaining loads of new fans. Word of their powerful live shows continued to spread and they were asked to open Combichrist's North American tour in the fall of 2010, just in time for a new album to hit.

iVardensphere’s much anticipated second studio album, Bloodwater, came out in November of 2010, showcasing Fox's growing interest in using tribal drumming and other more organic sounds alongside electronics and samplers. Spurned on by club play and word of mouth from the band’s performances on Monsters on Tour with Combichrist, Bloodwater smouldered up the Canadian college radio electronic charts, eventually spending three months on !earshot’s national electronic charts in early 2011 and nine weeks on ChartAttack’s electronic charts. It also received great reviews, including in Outburn Magazine and Rue Morgue. 

The fall 2010 tour with Combichrist went so well that iVardensphere was asked to come out on tour with Combichrist again in the spring of 2011.

Wherever they roam, iVardensphere are always eager to collaborate with other artists, including working with Booming Tree Taiko on their first tour with Combichrist and trading remixes with the likes of Rotersand. Past collaborations with Iszoloscope went so well that iVardensphere recently announced that Iszoloscope's Yann Faussurier became a full-fledged member of iVardensphere at the end of 2010, and Fox, Faussurier and Lacroix wasted no time in starting work on APOK alongside their collaborators. iVardensphere recently grew again as Iszoloscope and Memmaker's Frédéric Scarfone also joined the fold as an official member after previously exchanging remixes with iVardensphere as Katastroslavia and co-writing on APOK.

The band's continuing growth and solid sounds caught the interest of industrial/electro powerhouse label Metropolis Records, who have now welcomed iVardensphere into the fold to help foster further expansion.
