Lady Of The Lake

Two guitars, a drum set, two female voices and a sound saturated with reverb. Influenced by garage and psychedelic music, blending the world of acid westerns and dark mythology, Canyon Spree's music combines melodic riffs to 60s/70s, fuzzy and echoing tones

01 Badlands

Fantasmagoria is inspired by the playing of Annabelle Cazes (Glockabelle). The glockenspiel is played with metal thimbles, a technique invented by Glockabelle. This piece is part of a compilation of Paredes’ electroacoustic duets and trios called Electroacústica Dinámica.

"Bad Grrrlz* do it well" - From old scool to out of scool -  femisisms have always been a part of Hip Hop. Queen Latifah stated already in 1989 "The ladies will kick it, the rhyme that is wicked. Those that don't know how to be pros get evicted. A woman can bear you, break you, take you."(Ladies First) 
Salt N Pepa followed with "Ain't Nuthin' But A She Thing" in 1995: "The thing that makes me mad and crazy, upset. Got to break my neck just to get my respect. Go to work and get paid less than a man. When I'm doin' the same damn thing that he can. When I'm aggressive then I'm a bitch. When I got attitude you call me a witch. Treat me like a sex-object (That ain't smooth). Underestimate the mind, oh yeah, you're a fool. Weaker sex, yeah, right, that's the joke (ha!)"

This Set is a selection of my favourite feminist Hip Hop across the decades mixed with bouncy beats.

Ivonne Paredes is a Lima-born, Los Angeles-based composer and percussionist, whose rhythmic scores combine aspects of traditional Peruvian music with wide ranging contemporary influences. Upon relocating to the U.S., she studied with renowned percussionists Mike Davis and Beth Gottlieb, and went on to compose under Dr. Daniel Crozier at Rollins College (Winter Park, FL). A graduate student from CUNY - Brooklyn College, Ivonne has studied under the instruction of Tania León and Douglas Cohen. Her music has been performed across the Americas as well as in Europe and Asia. Some of the ensembles that have performed her compositions include forty/sixty, Periapsis, Black House Collective, JACOPERA, the Brooklyn College Symphony Orchestra, the Vanguardia Perú Big Band, the YMCA College of Hong Kong’s jazz ensemble, and Arturo O'Farrill's Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra.

The Musicboard Berlin GmbH is the only institution of its kind nationwide with the aim to fund pop music in new and creative ways, and maintain a dynamic discourse on pop music in Berlin. The Musicboard counts on the innovative power of the music and creative industry. The Musicboard provides a new and courageous form of pop music funding.

The Musicboard is also responsible for the Pop-Kultur Festival, which takes place this year from August 15th-17th 2018 for the fourth time. Because our guests and everyone else involved loved the Kulturbrauerei so much last year, we’re excited to announce that we’ll be able to call it home once again this coming summer during the festival.
