Self described as “suicide pop”, their debut album “Oh Unhappy Bella” is the narrative of a boy and his sombre, twisted journey through love with a girl who never existed -- none of the dark bits removed. “Suicide pop isn’t a glorification of sadness or anything like that,” says Johnny Glass. “These things happen, we’ve all been through something horrible and this was our way of putting that into song through the vehicle of someone else’s story.” 

That story was Sidney’s (Kauffman): “I spent a whole summer doing menial work painting fences and out of that mind numbing abyss has come this whole project, the story, everything.” All the work has been done in the shadow of their redbrick dwelling in a little outbuilding they’ve recreated as an amateur studio. “It’s all we ever wanted, just a little room to play about in and make some tunes,” says Tommy Cowley. “Only this time we had a story and a concept”. 

Utilising the DIY ideals laid down by the punk generation before them, RA! have made a point of making this project an entirely self-made operation. Everything from producing, to mastering, to graphics has all been the work of a select coterie of friends and co-conspirators. And now they’re ready to share this less-than-gleeful project with the world, in the hope that - ironically - it might just put some smiles on people’s faces.

So there’s these four reject space cadets from Northampton, England, Earth. They are The Retro Spankees and they make this hyperactive, DIY, Ctrl Alt Pop sound.
Their debut album “I Know You Are But What Am I?” - an enthusiastic romp through two minute pop songs released on Kooky Discs in 2006, followed by EP dedicated to the late great Richard Whitely entitled “Vowel Play” led to performances alongside gigging comrades Bearsuit, Misty’s Big Adventure, Das Wanderlust, Applicants, Polysics and more!

They’ve starred alongside Noddy Holder in the video for Misty’s Big Adventure’s ironic hit “Fashion Parade” and also briefly been the backing band for the legendary graphic novelist Alan Moore. Pretty Cool huh?
They went away to make some babies, wear some suits, paint their faces and change their bassist. Now they are back with a meagre vengeance and are out to prove that they have, well, nothing to prove.

They’ve made a new record, and they call it Meagre Vengeance. If their first album was a kid at school, this one has left school and entered the work place. It doesn’t like it’s job very much. It doesn’t like the people it serves, it doesn’t like the people it works with, and it really doesn’t like the people it works for!
It’s calling out to others that feel the same saying, “Hey you guys, we’re better than this. We’re capable of so much more than this and there’s nothing we can do about any of it. Let’s ride this Underling Express. Let’s back chat the Man. Let’s under achieve. Let’s weird out our colleagues. Let’s be Meagre, and have stupid noisy fun whilst we’re doing it!”
Oh yeah, and Grandmaster Gareth from Misty’s Big Adventure eats a carrot on it.

Otis Elliott is a South London based singer/songwriter born in Northampton. Otis combines emotion-ridden lyricism and gentle guitar arrangements to create a chilling, yet captivating experience. Otis has recently recorded his first EP with full accompaniment (due to be released in Spring 2015). He has also self produced the ‘self-titled’ cassette EP which was released Autumn 2014. Having played live all across London during 2014 and supporting The Wytches during a spell of their 2014 UK tour, Otis plans to continue performing shows both solo and with accompaniment throughout 2015.
