on the morning of the 9th of tevet/ jan 9th, 2025, my attention and focus and body felt entangled with the wildfires raging and consuming and displacing and suffocating the southern part of my home state of california, where many of my beloveds reside. and also i knew that i needed to return to where i was, lenni lenape land, where it was snowing and i could hardly notice the snow. and i knew that we were at the end of an era, the era right before what has felt like the rapidly increasing eroding and death of this u.s. empire. and i needed to be here, not there. in my body, not dissociated from it. preparing, not worrying. and this song came through me, inviting return.

This song was born out of John O'Donohue's poem, "For Someone Awakening to the Trauma of Her Past"; it has come through me in a season when the long buried wounds of past trauma have surfaced, inviting healing and renewal. "Only you know where the casket of pain is interred," John O'Donohue wrote. "You will have to scrape through all the layers of covering and according to your readiness, everything will open." 

May this song bring you healing, too.
