Mayaasia is a Tanzanian-born Canadian pop artist from Ottawa. Music has always been her escape from chaotic home life. She sang in her church choir and played both tenor saxophone and trumpet in the school band. Her influences include Rihanna and Lady Gaga. Mayaasia began her fashion modelling career in Toronto posing for brands such as Joe Fresh and Marshall's. She also graduated from the University of Toronto receiving an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree. Mayaasia is a self-taught singer who transitioned from a fanatic listener to an artist.
