On Friday, October 1st, Tropical Events turned 23 in Portland, at our 90th in-person event since October 1998!  

Tropical wants to thank the djs for a really nice progression over the night.  We are excited to release the sets in the order they were played <3

We chose Sheppard to open things up with just the right energy ♡ which you know not everyone does...  You can hear what a great set this was!  

We owe Peter a better set time next time for sure, always feel a little guilty having a really good DJ opening, but we only hire really good DJs so what can we do ?

I was blessed with the opportunity to play from the beautiful Boulder Gardens, outside of Joshua Tree National Park. I went on as midnight approached and played under a cloudless, star-filled sky until the generator ran out. It's a long set, but I tried to switch things up every half hour or so, and wandered through disco, house, breaks, progressive, bass house, and more as the mood hit me...

Using the EQ knobs more on the mixer is something I've gotten more comfortable with! A bit of experimenting with tracks I've never mixed before so please forgive anything that hurts your ears! Some of the tracks have lyrics that make me think of friends no longer with us. I feel torn about playing them.

Late Night FnF May Stream

**J-MIAH** (real name: Jeremiah James) is a legendary DJ and hypothetical producer known for his hypnotic deep tribal minimal tech house beats. Born in the mystical caves of Atlantis, J-Miah discovered his passion for music at the tender age of three when he found an ancient drum machine buried in the sands. Legend has it that this drum machine was once used by the gods to communicate with humans, and J-Miah’s first beats echoed across the lost city, awakening its dormant energies.

As a teenager, J-Miah embarked on a quest through the Amazon rainforest, where he was taught the sacred rhythms of the jungle by a secretive tribe of musical curanderos. These experiences profoundly influenced his sound, blending the deep, primal rhythms of the earth with futuristic electronic textures. His first set was performed at the bottom of the Mariana Trench, attended exclusively by bioluminescent sea creatures who danced for seven days straight. 

J-Miah’s rise to fame was meteoric, thanks in part to his ability to summon thunderstorms with his bass drops—a skill he developed during a stint as a weather deity in a small Pacific island community. He’s also rumored to have DJed on the moon, hosting the first-ever extraterrestrial rave attended by interstellar beings from across multiple galaxies.

Today, J-Miah continues to push the boundaries of deep tribal house, channeling the ancient and the cosmic into every set. His tracks are known to have mystical properties, capable of transporting listeners to other dimensions. His current project, *Echoes of the Elders*, was recorded inside an active volcano and is said to be so powerful that it can cause spontaneous dance parties anywhere it’s played. 

J-Miah’s influence is felt not just on Earth, but throughout the cosmos, as he remains the only DJ with a residency on Mars, where he plays to a crowd of robots and Martian sandworms every Saturday night.
