After 10 years of pushing the envelope of Bass music, Leeds based J.Sparrow launches his own record label "Navy Cut".

"Navy Cut" promises to explore new territory in Sound System music by focusing on quality releases by some of the worlds talented producers.

NC001 introduces a new project between Leo James (Ruckspin, Author, Submotion Orchestra) and Ed Gooden (Quark).

"Speak Back" the A side is very reminiscent of early "Rhythm and Sound" featuring Shanee Pink on vocals.

The B side ventures into a more sound system style Steppas affair featuring moody guitar by Ed Gooden.

To finish off this debut release Egoless; one of Croatia's finest exports completely flips the A side with a lively remix.

Future releases by Navy Cut will feature music by J.Sparrow, Author, RWild and guests.

Melbourne based producer Alex Dickson has been making music since 2011 and made a name for himself with the New Zealand production duo Perverse, releasing on foundational imprint Tempa, Artikal Music UK, Innamind Recordings, Boka & EMI Music.

2016 marked a new era for Alex, with the birth of his solo alias Pugilist and relocating to Melbourne, Australia from Auckland, NZ. 

2017 has been an eventful year for Alex - releasing his debut EP on Fatkidonfire, returning to Artikal Music UK, making a guest appearance on J:Kenzos Rinse FM show and joining the Navy Cut label.

Pugilist is about quality over quantity and is focused on removing genre boundaries and letting the music speak for itself.

Drawing inspiration from Dub, Techno, Jungle and Hip-Hop. And artists such as Rhythm & Sound, Andy Stott. Objekt & Massive Attack, his influences are apparent but he manages to capture a sound of his own.

ZamZam 71 is the welcome return of D-Operation Drop, the multi-man crew from Cesena, Italy with a well-earned rep that continues to grow.  Everything they touch becomes a bona fide killer, from traditional steppers to 140 abstractions, to full on clash material. Last year alone saw powerful releases on Scrub A Dub, Lion Charge, Green King Cuts, and Subaltern.  Their second chapter on ZamZam marks yet another high point, an absolutely storming release that won’t leave any box it makes it into. 

The reverb drenched one-finger-melody that introduces “Bronco” throws open the gate for a brutalist kick-snare riddim with one single purpose - to absolutely crush the dance.  A throbbing two note sub and swinging chains sweep aside any and all challengers, leaving pure devastation in their wake.  Mesmerizing in its simplicity and absolutely devasting in its efficiency, this weapon has been deployed on dubplate from the likes of J:Kenzo & The Bug - now the beast is released to wreak havoc on sounds far & wide. 

“Coldset” is the healing salve after the bruising of the A side, equally captivating and functional in the dance, swaggering hard at a cooler temperature with metallic rockers hi hats in the drivers’ seat and ethereal pads hovering above another signature D-Op Drop 140 scorcher.  Reminding us of the roots of this music, “Dubwise” is the refrain that echoes and trail-tangles deep down the side chain into lusciously distorted sheets of sound that will have hands in the air for multiple rewinds.

“If you cast your eyes and ears back to a Boiler Room set from two years ago, you might have heard the mighty @Ishan-Sound play a track called ‘Death Struggle’. That was one of the first tunes we heard from WZ’s studio - piquing our collective interest with its effectively simple ‘beats, bass and space’ recipe. We kept in touch with David over the years; following his releases on Czech collective Harmless Youth, alongside appearances on @eatmyb3at and @iolab. He hit us up with a few unsigned bits recently and his FKOF Records debut came about pretty quickly after that…

"'FKOFd038' opens with that BR track from two years ago – 'Death Struggle' – ably demonstrating our love for keeping things as simple and weighty as possible. It’s a meditative stepper, albeit with a few on-edge synths to keep you on your toes! 'Gas Out' follows, with its weighty kick and mysterious atmospherics dropping into a full-blown roller. It’s an ear-worm, but one we’ve been testing to great effect in the dance over the last few months. 'Fwaah' and 'Chambers' close WZ’s 'FKOFd038', produced in relatively quick succession together and again highlighting the Czech musician’s skills on the buttons. 'Fwaah' ratchets the tension up with its intro before revealing its powerful low end and crisp percussives. 'Chambers' is a wholly different affair with its relaxed vibe and meditative qualities.  

"We’re really excited to see where WZ and the Harmless Youth crew go and we’re even more excited to be welcoming WZ back to the FKOF Records roster for a future release very soon. We’ve enjoyed pulling 'FKOFd038' together and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do…"
