Born from an improvised fragment with an odd tuning this song represents our first true collaboration as a song writing duo. There was something special from the get go when we first played this track together, experimenting with lyrics and drums. It came into its own when we performed it live and it’s remained in our live sets ever since.

The Places Where We Go (single)

The sound of a cicada can be described as a loud, persistent, and rhythmic buzzing or humming. It often resembles a deep, high-pitched drone that pulsates in a steady, almost mechanical pattern. The noise can be both soothing and overwhelming, depending on the context, and is characterized by a continuous vibration that fills the air, especially during hot summer days. 

The song is a progressive journey that explores a deeply philosophical and somewhat abstract idea: how people become accustomed to their environment, even if that environment is harmful or limiting. It’s inspired by the eerie, persistent sound of a cicada—an insect that signals summer with its rhythmic, repetitive noise. At first, we notice the cicada’s call, and it feels almost soothing or pleasant; it’s part of the soundtrack of summer. But if you think about that sound outside its context — if you isolate it and strip away the familiar, it’s actually just a loud, screeching cacophony.
