While having created her own signature sound inside the DJ booth, she has now also moved her vision on music into the
studio. After two successful collaborations with Ben Pest on labels such as Earwiggle, a self released collaboration on her own label Wigs, and multiple single released tracks on different VA’s, IMOGEN now lands her first solo EP »What?« on Voitax.
According to her own description, this EP is her first bulk of music after having experienced a persistent writing blockage during the pandemic. While eventually being isolated for five days, each of these tracks were produced in a stream of inspiration. The EP presents a strong package of five tracks that clearly reflect the influence of her homelands prosperous electronic music heritage.
A distinguished set of breaks are fusioned with Electro, IDM, and Hardcore without ever loosing touch to its groovy rhythmics. While this release is certainly loaded with strong dance floor material, the quality of her production process remains remarkable. The roughness and edginess of the entire EP reveal a strong connection to her 808 and modular system, that helped to create unique textures and granular soundscapes. Instead of resampling UK sample packs over and over again, IMOGEN is ambitious to create her own signature sound through a sequence of personalized studio equipment. With this approach she manages to fusion a punky style of 90’s rave culture with sophisticated futuristic sound processing. Each track meets a different atmosphere, as the approach to rhythm, speed, sound and arrangement evolves from the beginning to the end - yet, they all remain part of the same story.

The small but perfectly formed Cabrera label is to release a first EP from someone other than the Spanish label boss himself. It comes from Kastil and features two fantastic originals as well as a remix by Munich techno tastemaker Dario Zenker.
Kastil is the Soul Notes label boss and is a producer and DJ who, for the last five years plus, has been setting his own agenda. From deepest, jazziest house to raw industrial techno and plenty in between, he has a singular style that is full of energy and always makes a big impact. This new EP proves that once more.
Opener ‘Vedanta’ is a dark, foggy cut with muffled but driving drums down low, a lot of lo­fi dirt hanging in the air and skittish percussive hits darting about in a brooding chamber of sound. It is intense and steamy stuff for warehouse spaces in the dead of night.
‘Xenopeltis’ on the flip is a different animal: this one is eight minutes of loose breakbeats and urban soul that is melancholic and emotive but forceful at the same time. Remixing is Ilian Tape co­founder Dario Zenker who has almost single handedly revived broken beat techno with the work of his label. His version is crunchy and old school, with rattling rave energy off set by serene synth work. It is an impactful track that rounds out a terrific techno EP.

Over the last ten years, Madrid born Jose Cabrera has proved that he has a diverse taste in music, and an equally diverse output. Music that is made for the floor, music that works on distilling techno to is rawest and most core elements and music that aims to hypnotise dance floors with its absorbing sense of mood and groove. 

As well as EP's on labels like Deeply Rooted, Tresor Records & Ben Sims' Symbolism, he has also released on his own labels, J.C. and A Harmless Deed. 2015 came correct with a fully immersive full length, Portrait of the Flying Sky. It was a well received album that found J.C exploring his most compelling techno atmospheres yet. Full of refined grooves, slicks bleeps and bass and subtly spaced out synths, it proved a big success with DJs, dancers and worldwide press alike. 

As a DJ, this well travelled Spaniard is just as accomplished— In 2014 he became part of the resident team at the legendary Tresor club, most often found stitching together visceral techno soundtracks, electro and ambient whenever it is need in order to complete the musical path down which he takes you. Of course, J.C also plays at various other clubs and festivals around Europe and as such is a key part of the global techno conversation.
