I was invited to record a set a few weeks ago for Abracadabra's Twitch TV online festival after releasing my track "As long as I breathe" on their "Human Nature" Compilation. If you didn't get a chance to see the live stream... I put a table on a sandbar in the middle of a lagoon in Chacahua, Oaxaca, Mexico, and played for the sunset.... was definitely worth the risk of putting my laptop out there.

This mix is a fusion of deep, provocative tracks as well as some upbeat ethnic vibes from some of my favorite artists, all in the theme of what "Human Nature" means to me.

A big part of my intention in playing and creating the ethnic style of music I do is to inspire people to feel connected to their deep rooted human instincts that are buried beneath the layers of modern societal conditioning.  We're all just animals walking around pretending that we're something greater, and forgetting that we're just as much a part of the web of life and existence as every other being on this planet.

Feeling inspired by this last full moon cycle I decided to continue my mix series “Unlocking the Doors of Infinity” 💫

I started the series last summer with the intention to create mixes for practicing yoga, since then I’ve heard from many people and friends around the world of them being used for ceremonies of all kinds, breath work classes, massages and more... I’m so happy to know there are so many people enjoying these sets that I’ve curated with much love 🤍

This is a mix of some of my favorite downtempo, ambient, and medicine music songs, with a very deep and gentle wave of energy, perfect for starting your day intentionally as I like to do, or anytime you feel to move your attention inwards and practice conscious movement.

For this addition I invited my amazing hermanita @karlita.armenta to share some words to inspire your movement at the beginning of the set ✨ Karla is from Mexico and I told her to let whatever flows from her heart come through, and she channeled a beautiful message for you all 🙏 Her words are in Spanish but here is a small part translated into English:

“Celebrate

Celebrate the moment, celebrate for no apparent reason, just for the simple reason to be. Celebrate that your body, your temple is a constant flow of life, of possibilities. 
You are energy and it must flow, feel your body and move it with totality, without structure, without rules, trusting in what your being needs. 

The body is wise and responds to every stimulus, therefore, a conscious, attentive movement that emerges from within heals, unblocks and reconciles. 

Awakening the five senses, re-connecting with each part of you, where the mind stops taking control. And when you move like this, you are with you, you are there for you. 

Move in such a way that your body feels that it is celebrating the moment, celebrating who you are, celebrating the present, celebrating the flow, the change, celebrating the opportunity, celebrating all that has been done, all that has been lost, all that has been gained, celebrating life, your lifetime. 

Perhaps it is the best time to be total, to be enough, to be yourself.”

“The past 6 months I have been weaving to support the protection of Wirikuta the Wixárika ( Huichol ) ancestral gardens. As well as filming & capturing interviews in their village in the Sierra Madre Occidental range of Mexico. With permission from the Marakames I was able to capture some of their traditional instrument loops in the studio &
create an electronic dance fusion EP. I was very excited to have the support of my brothers J∙Pool & Jakare to weave on these tracks. We will also be releasing a series of videos / albums of their traditional acoustic music soon. The intention of this project is to find ways to spread awareness of what is happening now at Wirikuta. I am deeply grateful for my brother NIDO FILMS who traveled a long way with me to Mexico to capture footage to get this message out to a larger audience.”

SoloKa, J.Pool, Janax Pacha - Runa (Cafe De Anatolia)

A few months ago in September, the week before my son was born, my good friend Tony Tobias (official videographer of Momentom Collective) came to Tulum. We made the music video to accompany this song produced last year, it's my own take on the classic medicine song "Madre, te siento".

My intention in making a cover of this song (as well as the video) came from pain, frustration and some anger. Feelings that arise when I see what we are doing to our beautiful Mother Earth with pollution and endless unconscious expansion & construction.  Especially in Tulum where I have been based the last few years. I made this version of the song fast and dancy, more suitably played in environments in which the message of the lyrics might not reach.

The English lyrics are "Mother I feel you under my feet, Mother I feel your heartbeat,"
Spanish - "Madre te siento bajo mis pies, te siento al ladito de mi corazon." (Mother I feel you under my feet, I feel you in my heart."
Simple yet powerful.

I have always been passionate about protecting the environment, I worked in reforestation in Canada and have lived in several permaculture communities, and now with the birth of my son, bringing this new being into the world, I feel more passion than ever to raise awareness around this issue. I know that environmentalism is one of the main pillars of Envision festival and that is a huge part of why I am so excited to be a part of this festival this year and to be releasing this in partnership with them to raise money for their NGO "Somos El Cambio" which is responsible for several regenerative projects in Costa Rica

I believe that the state of our (humans) relationship with the earth is a reflection of the state of our relationship with ourselves. We have been going through a very long (thousands of years) learning period, in which we have forgotten where we come from and what our role is on this planet. Because of this, we have been destructive to ourselves, our bodies and minds, and to our environment, living in-harmoniously with natural order. 

Now we are in a beautiful moment. We are in a time of remembering, of connecting to our ancient ancestor's ways, of reconnecting to ourselves and the earth, of waking up and becoming more aware. However, there is still much to learn before we stop walking the harmful path that we are on as a species and begin to live fully in harmony.

This video is meant to be a reminder and a mirror, for those who watch to look and see what we are doing and know that this is a choice. That we have the choice, to continue on this path or to choose to create a new way of living that is regenerative and nourishing for all beings, including the conscious being that is this planet Earth in which we are living.

I love listening to world music! Making edits of these amazing classic songs is my way to give them new life and new opportunity to be played in environments that they may normally not have ever had the chance to be heard. 

This music, Latin, African, Native American folklore and traditional music is so powerful, it really connects to something deep in our human instincts and makes us feel alive. When I play these edits in DJ sets live people always connect and move naturally to the music :)

I made this edit a few months ago and played it in almost all my sets over the last high season in Tulum and Central America. It's a great high energy downtempo track to get people moving, and now I am sharing it with you as a gift!

Katy Inti Lamadrid - Bororo -  J.Pool & Alunwachuma Remix

I spent most of summer 2023 on the mystical island of Mykonos in Greece as a resident artist/DJ at the world renowned Noema Restaurant and Scorpios Beach Club. This set I recroded live on one of my last nights on the island after spending the over 2 months there collecting music to curate the vibe of the space. It is a mix of different world vibes of organic downtempo ranging from Middle Eastern to African, European and Latin influences. I hope you enjoy the journey !

This past summer I had the opportunity to be a resident Artist/DJ in the world famous Scorpios beach club on the mystical island of Myknonos. I stayed more than 2 months on the island and this set was recorded one afternoon on one of my last days. The vibe in the afternoon at Scorpios is impeccable. The vibe is chill, relaxed, crystal clear waters meet a privte beach and the sun sets slowly below the water on the horizon creating a spectacular show of shade of color on the water and rocky landscape. This set was played before moving into the night energy where the music turns up and the headliner DJs come, with the intention to set the vibe right and get people ready to dance the night away. Scorpios Mykonos - J.Pool Live DJ Set 2023 (Organic Downtempo)

"Light the Way" is the first collaboration between J.Pool and World Renowned Yogi Jonah Kest. The track is uplifting and energetic yet chill and relaxing at the same time. With the mantra Om Namah behind the track it is perfect for energetic yoga practice. The original idea for the song was first recorded by J.Pool in Bali, with the intention of capturing the feeling of driving through Balinese rice fields at sunset. I hope you resonate with this vibe and enjoy!!

Light The Way ft. Jonah Kest

Sana Ka Ye Na is the first collaboration between myself and LAYV. It was recorded at Labyrinth Studio in Bali while we were both there as resident artists in December 2023.

The song features the sound of a hand made Ngoni, a traditional African Instrument that LAYV has learned to make on his own. It features soft vocals of LAYV & J.Pool fusing together and floating over the sound of the Ngoni and African Rhythms.

The track has an ethereal, chill, and transcendental vibe that wil transport you to an epic sunset on the coast of Africa, dancing with the breeze and waves of the ocean.

Wacomaia

Waro is a traditional ceremonial song from the Yawanawa tribe, carried through the voices of Ninunihu & Yaka Yawanawa. Rooted in the joy and deep spirituality of Yawanawa culture, Waro invites listeners into a collective experience of dance, celebration, and connection to nature.

This song is a transmission from the forest — a reminder of what human beings have always done across all cultures and times: to sing, dance, and offer music as a prayer of gratitude to creation. In the Yawanawa villages, ceremonies are participatory, uniting body and voice in a shared field of awareness. That feeling is summed up in the phrase “Só Alegria” — only joy.

Waro reconnects us with the ancient essence of ecstatic dance — not as something invented, but as something remembered. A sacred act of communion with the living world, echoing the original purpose of art, music, and ceremony: to honor life and give thanks.

WARO (Ecstatic Mix)

Echoes of the tribe is the first collaboration between J.Pool & ecstatic dance legend, Mushina. It's a full power ecstatic track with lots of fire energy, tribal beats meat synths and a deep piano breakdown that brings listeners on a journey, connecting to ancestral spirits though the many voices present in the production. Echoes of the Tribe

Owazama (Ecstatic Mix) is the latest offering in a series of sacred remixes honoring the songs of the Yawanawa people of the Brazilian Amazon.

Originally recorded by Raio during a traditional ayahuasca ceremony in the jungle, this powerful chant is performed by Yawanawa artists Ninunihu & Yaka Yawanawa — carriers of ancestral wisdom and sacred song. After returning to his studio in Bali, Raio invited me (J.Pool) to bring this song into a new context — bridging the ancient with the modern, the ceremonial with the dance floor.

With deep reverence, I shaped this remix as an offering — honoring the essence of the original while adding rhythm, movement, and spacious textures to support ecstatic dance and deep connection.

Owazama invites us into presence, into remembrance. It is a celebration of the universal human spirit: to sing, to dance, and to give thanks.

Só Alegria. Only Joy.

Artist Bio 

The young producer, Joseph DeFaria (J•POOL), originally from the south of Canada, has been living a nomadic lifestyle for most of his adult life. Working in the forests of Canada in the summers as a tree planter, and traveling the rest of the year, Joe started his project "J•POOL" with the goal of creating music that is inspired by the many different natural environments in which he spends his life.  His intention is to produce music that will make people move and feel the connection to their innerself and the world around them.  He writes his music as he travels, finding inspiration in the feelings that arise from the unique energy present in each new location he experiences . The sound of J•POOL represents a journey through the infinite universe within as well as the unfathomably complex physical world in which our lives are manifest. 

The song "Selva" was written while I was exploring the jungles and diverse biospheres of Mexico and Central America.  My hope with this song was to capture a part of the magic the exists in those incredibly mystical lands, and translate it into something that will make people feel in touch with their more primal spiritual nature.

On the Roof of Imagination is a Sound Healing Journey that I originally created to be performed as a meditation at the end of Ecstatic Dances. This time I performed it as a meditation in itself to celebrate the Winter Solstice, Christmas, and the beginning of a new year for my good friends at Imagination Hostel in Arambol, Goa, India.

The ambiences you hear during the journey are a collection of recordings that I've gathered over the last 2 years while traveling.  Each holds the energy of a powerful place or moment.  You can hear birds at sunrise on a lake in the mountains of Canada, Argan seeds in my hands in the south of Morocco, gentle waves under the full moon from the Indian Ocean in Kerela and more.  You can also hear clips of the Sasak villagers of Lombok, Indonesia, singing and laughing, as well as parts of the traditional sunset ceremony at the Uluwatu temple in Bali.  I've blended together all of these elements to create an ambience that captures and emanates a part of what I have experienced on my journey.

Everything about this performance is completely improvised... I take in the energy of the moment and my surroundings and channel it directly into the music.

The native flute I play in the beginning and the end was handmade by friend @masterskayfleit (you can find him and his epic flutes on Instagram!)

Envision 2020: Under The Mango Tree @The Momentom Collective Theme Camp

This is an edit of a song I heard for the first time while traveling in Morocco recently, when I close my eyes I can envision the massive bay in which I lived where the sand dunes reached out to the touch of the ocean, where the sunset always filled the sky with rich colours of deep orange to a dreamlike rose, and the stars always shone bright in the night stretching to infinity. "Je Pense A Toi" means "I'm thinking of you" in French, when I hear this song I think of this place and mystical energy the the land there holds, it transports me back to the ancient sacred lands of Africa.

The soundscape in the beginning of this edit was created by putting together recording that I made while in Morocco, the ambience of wind at sunrise near the ocean and the sound of light footsteps on dry argan seeds.

The original version of this song is from the album "Sou Ni Tilé" by Amadou et Mariam. Thank you for creating such beautiful music!

This song is very deeply connected to my soul, in the late hours in the studio I set my ego aside and let myself become vulnerable to the microphone, singing and playing straight from the heart. Mi Alma

"Unlocking the Doors of Infinity" is a mix series that I've been inspired to create for gentle yoga flows. I started practicing yoga more than 7 years ago and have become very intimate with my practice in these recent months. I love having music playing to help guide my journey inwards throughout the practice, so I've decided to release a new mix every full moon feature my favourite chill downtempo, ambient, and medicine music! The mix is 1:11:11 and was created with the intention to be a journey beginning from meditation and finishing in Shavasana. Unlocking The Doors of Infinty 001: Music for Yoga Flows

Welcome to the second Volume of "Unlocking the Doors of Infinity", a series of sets I am creating to help you go deep into your yoga and meditation practice! In this volume I invited my beautiful sister Hannah Cunha share some words to help guide you into your practice and into infinity. Hannah is an amazing human, yogi, and yoga instructor, famous for her wise words in her yin classes. Here are the words that she had to share for us in this episode:

"Notice the breath

Allow the breath to awaken what is often a dormant sense of curiosity we have when it comes to the body

The body now becomes our direct portal to presence

As the breath continues to move the body, what we do matters less than what we notice

Allow breath and curiosity to keep you bound to what can’t be seen

Layer by layer, breath by breath, we’re guided in, in the form of a slow unravel

Welcome to the third edition of Unlocking the Doors of Infinity, a musical journey created for practicing yoga, breath work, or anything else that this journey inspires in you.

I met Rikke this past January in San Marcos La Laguna, Lago Atitalan, Guatemala. We instantly connected with our passion for yoga, philosophy and science!

In this edition, Rikke shares some beautiful words to guide you into your practice and to return home in the end. She has blessed us with a glimpse into her knowledge and understanding of the quantum field as well as her profound connection to the body and mother earth.

"Presence yourself to yourself.

Presence yourself to the movement of your breath, to the drum of your heartbeat.

Presence yourself to the grounding solidity of your bones as they echo the anchoring resonance of the earth.

Presence yourself to the fluidity and the deep sea intelligence of your organs.

Presence yourself to the electricity of your  nervous system and subatomic particles that vibrate as you.

There is aliveness here.

There is a pulse of creation.

Pour yourself into yourself, pour yourself into this pulse, into the currents that usher their way through the matrix you experience as “you”

Into the depths of you, into the deepest chamber of you, into the ground of your being.

Into the stillness, into the silence.

Here is a gateway, a portal from your being into your becoming.

There is a longing here, a longing for life to birth itself out of itself.

Give yourself to this desire.

This body knows it birthed itself, it made itself, it moves, it has always know how to move.

Let your back body melt like wet clay to the fertile soil underneath you.

Let your front body dissolve open into infinite sky.

You are the channel between the two.

You are the earth sky vessel.

You are infinity vibrating as form.

To celebrate this year's Dia De Los Muertos here in Mexico I had the pleasure of playing this set for a beautiful private event in the jungle of Tulum.

This is an extended 3 hour set featuring many of my favorite Latin and World Downtempo music to celebrate this amazing day of gratitude.

Janax Pacha and I have come together with our creative artistic abilities to create this unique and powerfully vibrational experience. Combining the organic and shamanic Live Looping style of Janax Pacha with a refined sonic aesthetic, we are exploring new dimensions of possibilities live sets. This set is completely live and improvised in the moment, feeding off the energy of our surrounding and audience... it is a completely new experience every time.

We performed this set recently together at the beautiful Tree House Tulum, where the jungle meets the ocean under the moon and stars. This music is a pure reflection of our essence as humans and artists, both individually and together. We are mirrors of each other and of you.
