Good for You (with J.War) [DEMO]

"Silvertone Guitar" is a completely autobiographical song telling the story of how I obtained my first electric guitar when I was nine-years-old. The event took place in 1966, inspired by my love of the Beatles and desire to write my own songs. I intentionally went for a "60s retro-vibe" to fit the setting. For friends from my hometown of Cherryville, the "neighbors basement" I refer to was actually Wonnie Webb's house in Eastwood. The "teenage band" my dad and I watched rehearse was called The Toronadoes (pronounced "Tor-Nah-dos") featuring Rick Webb on drums, his brother Danny on guitar with cousin Harold Mauney, who was a classmate of mine, on the other guitar and Blake Beam on bass. The event occurred pretty much as sung in the song. Up until the moment I walked into our living room on Christmas morning, I had no clue whether I was getting the guitar or not. The feeling of ecstasy when I saw that Silvertone leaning against the amp is one I will never forget and is one of the special moments of my life. I don't know how my dad swung it because the guitar was priced well above our normal Christmas budget. I'm thinking Wonnie Webb might have taken pity on him and given him a great deal. The Silvertone (made by Sears) was a quality guitar for a nine-year-old to learn on and I am always thankful that my dad had the foresight to start me off with an instrument I could succeed on. By the end of that Christmas holiday, I had already written my first two songs, "Lover's Time" and "A Perfect Day' which my neighbor Keith Nolen and I sang together for years.

This entire project was solely my affair. I wrote the song and lyrics, recorded all instruments and vocals and mixed and mastered the finished product. To say the least, it was a labor of love.
